I like my desktop to auto arrange the icons, but when I place a new icon on the desktop, it wants to insert it in the row where the cursor is located. I have to position the cursor if I want to place it after the last icon. In Win2K, if I drag the icon to the right of the icons, it would automatically place the icon after the last one (no need to position it). Can XP auto arrange be configured like Win2K? I've checked all of the usual places and haven't found an answer.

don't know if this is exactly what you are looking for but XP adds the option "Align to grid". Is something like that what you want?

I think align to grid only works if auto arrange is off. I have turned it on/off, and have not seen a difference.
