I have been wanting to improve the visibility of my Empeg during the day and, if possible, with the top down. I ordered a couple of lenses from Filener Laser last Wednesday and received them in Friday's mail. Thanks Bruce and thanks to Mach for getting this new source up and running.

I thought a comparison might be of interest so the attached photo shows the original blue lens on the left side of the display and one of Filener's smoke lenses on the right side. No flash was used but a halogen lamp is about 6 inches away from the lens and just off axis to provide some ambient lighting.

The original lens is scratched quite a bit which exaggerates the differences but I am hopeful that the new one will be an improvement. Oh yes, the fit is just fine!

Is that the light smoke or the dark? It seems a little on the dark site (relatively) for the light smoke. Also, the stock blue as an anti-reflective layer that will make the characters on the display seem a bit blurry compared to the other lenses.

It is "Smoke, 103-2" and I do realize that the A/R coating is not present on the replacement. In fact it was delivered with the original acrylic manufacturer's paper covering still in place.

The smoke really gives the best visibility of any of the lenses (except perhaps DarkStorm's clear lens). Because the lens color is neutral, the blue-green from the VFD goes through with the least absorption. Of the empeg stock lenses, green and blue are the best, but the others are a little difficult to read.

I am glad it worked out well in your case! Now, what would be really cool is if we could get an empeg logo etched neatly in one of the unused spots on the lens...

The first road trip was very successful, even wearing sunglasses. Now I have to wash the car so that I can put the top down!
