Nice alternative to the 'harness dangling out of the sled' (too-late-its-already-been-stolen) idea

VERY nice!

Now remember to take the player with you anyway. Dropping it in the glove box or the trunk doesn't do you any good if they're casing the parking lot and see you do it.

When I put my faceplate over the sled, I still take my player with me. The faceplate isn't empeg-theft insurance, it's an extra layer of broken-window protection.

VERY nice! Now, were but buttons and the screen perminantly fixed to the faceplate? If so, wow, that's so lucky.

Do you have any trick for getting it to stay in the dash? Or does it just stay there.

I've been working on my faceplate today. Almost all the buttons are loose, backed by a metal layer, then backed by the clear plastic light guide layer. Screen is seperate and so is the casette flap. It's going to take a LOT of epoxy to get THIS to stick together.

Everything was fixed to the faceplate except for two buttons which i crazy glued. And if you look in the last pic (of the top view) you can see two metal flaps sticking out of the back. Those kind of hold it in place, they were also there when i ripped it off. It was all pretty convenient, I guess i lucked out.

It's the Ford factory stereo, I've seen it in a lot of older Fords.

Hmm, cool. Is the factory face still intact? You say you crazy glued some buttons, but did you have to do any irreversable damage to get the faceplate off? I also own a Mustang and as long as I can get the factory head unit back together afterwards, I'd like to do this, since I plan on selling my Mustang some day with the factory head installed (they sure ain't getting my empeg!)

My plan was to also put it back on when i sold the car but i dont even want to bother with it now. I just bought the same stereo for 10 bucks off of ebay so i can just put that in when i sell it. Im sure it is possible to put it back together, the only two buttons i had to glue were the rew and ff buttons.
