I was browsing through the Unofficial Developer Site and noted that there are only 276 (at time of writing) empegs registered there. Since this is pretty obviously way less than the number of empegs sold so far, I was wondering what reasons people had to register or not register.
I personally think registering your empeg is a good idea. The information you need give can be as minimal as you like, so there's no risk of someone going through the list looking for people to steal from. It's also a really cool way of finding out people in your local area to go and visit if you have problems, want to see an empeg in action, or just want to drop round for a beer and compare installation notes. I like the sense of community it gives. And of course if there were people out there who had done installs on, say, Nissan NXs, I would be able to ask them what they did and how they did it.
So what are your reasons for registering or not?

So what are your reasons for registering or not? Sigh... I tried the same thing about three weeks ago (see here) and got nowhere. Good luck. tanstaafl. "There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch"

I registered for the reasons you mentioned. I don't understand why you wouldn't. Plus, I doubt anyone with internet access is a car stereo thief, so I think I can trust to put the make of my car (particularly if there's like 1000 others like it in my state) on the site. DiGNAN

But it doesn't matter because I keep the Empeg with me in its carrying case whenever the car is parked. ___________ Tony Fabris

I don't register because I don't want my serial # tied to any information about me. This could be used against me if someone wanted to spoof my id and either claim warranty service or purchase more Empegs. The less information about you on the net, the better.

either claim warranty service or purchase more EmpegsI don't think could get warranty service. I believe they would notice a different serial number. Besides, why would they do that? There aren't any empegs old enough to need an unexpired warranty. And what do you mean "purchase more empegs"? It's not like empeg will charge you just because they recieved a serial number from a previous purchase you made. They don't ask for information like that. I really don't see what the big deal is with registering your player. Then again, I must live in much safer areas than most of you. None of my friends or I have ever had a stereo stolen. Or their car broken into. DiGNAN

The less information about you on the net, the better.I suppose your phone number is not listed and you receive your snailmail to postoffice mailbox... . Hey, there is such thing as being too careful: a colegue of mine was very careful to lock the office room when we went for lunch or such (the building being guarded, access cards and all) to the point or returning halfway from the restaurant if he forgot to do it. After I spent one lunchbreak with him 'calculating' the effort and worry about his, say, expensive pens being stolen all the time vs. trouble if they actually do, he loosened up. Come on, we would just like to know approximate geographical anf cat type-wise distribution of empegs. After all, you did provide your name, job and geographical area... Cheers! He's got a point, Hoagy. On this board you give us your name, where you live, and even your email address. Hell, you even told us where you work! The first 3 fields are all the information you need to give on the registry. Something doesn't quite add up here. DiGNAN

I was wondering what reasons people had to register or not register. Here is my reason not to register, until now: it seems that there's no way to modify your registration info once entered. Since I only got my empeg installed today, I didn't want to lie in the registration info that I have it installed and I also didn't want it to say "not installed" for all eternity. Anyway, problem solved. Borislav

To change your registration, all you have to do is repeat the registration with the same details except for where there is a change. It is then updated with the new info. One of the few remaining Mk1 owners... #00015

You are right, it even says so at the top of the page. I'll go find my brown paper bag.
