I love my empeg.

Today I put it into my bag to carry up to the office, except dummy forgot to ZIP his bag up. So, when I got out of the car, I flung my bad onto my back. The empeg want flyin - two feet over where it hit the side of the car next to me and plummeted straign down. It landed - on it's faceplate. (No damage to the other car. Or, rather, if there was damage it blended in with all the other damage.) I got back in my car, slid it in, and turned on the iginition, prepared for the worst.
It powered up. HD's found, VFD good, sound great.

No damage, other than a scuff on the corner from the car, and scuffed buttons for when it landed on it's face.

Check the HD shock mounts when you can. Sometimes they pop out because of stuff like that.

I always thought it was wierd how some empegs seem to be soo tuff, and others break with a light tap in the wrong place. Just like the one that got stolen, thrown on the sidewalk and then run over, and the vfd didn't even break!

I'm going to check all my screws and internals tonight - I had a scare earlier when I plugged it int my fabulous Mlord 'The Works' Dock (plig), and it couldn't get an IP address. Even though I had a link light on, it was dead network wise.
(I later found out that our work's DHCP server was dead, so.. I feel better now..)

Just like humans, I think. For every story you hear of someone falling off a building and living you hear about a guy who got a paper cut and died.

Well with such a small production run I wouldn't be surprised if there was suspect quality control.

Of course the Empeg may be sturdy under vertain types of strees(from different angles) and fragile in others.

I don't think it was every design to withstand significant amounts of shock outside a dock, was it?

Exactly how long was the beta test for the empeg branded carrying case anyway? Will this be fixed in a "patch"?

I have a few empeg cases and none of mine have the pouch zipper upside down.

If you look at my empeg bag from the "front" with the embroidered logo right-side up, I have one handle on the top and one the right. The zipper on the front pouch closes from right to left (special?). This orientation causes me to dump the contents of the front zipper pouch once in every five or six times I grab the bag from the right handle.

Its not a big deal, but every time it happens I wonder why it was designed this way... Are you guys saying your zipper pouch closes left to right? Is my empeg bag a collectors item? What should I start the bidding at?

This is a stock blue empeg bag. It's exactly as the OP describes. The empeg logo is in the lower left corner of the pocket. There's a handle at the top and on the right. The zip(per) on the pocket opens left to right.

If you pick the bag up by the handle on the right, with the pocket zip(per) slightly open, it will indeed let stuff out.

OK, I looked at my empeg bag. The front zip runs vertically if the bag is picked up using the side handle (i.e. it's not wraparound like the main compartment zip). If the zip is open, stuff will fall out whichever way round the zip closes. If the zip is closed, nothing will fall out whichever way round the zip closes. I'm not sure what would be changed by changing the orientation of the zip...

Oh, yeah, excuse the keyboard plaque.

In fact, this orientation used to be considered the correct way. Older zippers are not as stiff and had the capacity to move due to gravity. But if the closed position has the zipper mechanism at the bottom, it can't move any farther down, and just remains closed. ISTR that astronaut and some military flight suits are designed this way, but I could be wrong.

Of course, modern zippers are much stiffer than the ones I'm describing and don't really suffer from that problem.

Okay... I can almost buy the "gravity defense". It sounds somewhat logical, and I tend to buy "button fly" for this exact reason.

Problem is a lot of the time I am in a rush to get out of the car... friends are waiting for me, teasing me about my "man-bag" and I don't always check the integrity of the pouch zipper. I also seem to prefer the side handle... It just looks a little less like a "european carry-all" that way.
