I now have serial #98, but no sled. As I have 2 cars with MkII sleds and tuners installed, one more MkII and no more tuners, and a 3rd vehicle being delivered Wednesday (which made its way from CA to PA in an unbelievable 5 days) I'm debating modifying a MkII sled with a second harness/docking connector such that it can take a MkI or a MkII. Curious: has anyone done it before?

I also got the 2nd car installed on Saturday, they did a nice job but screwed up a couple things, sadly, and took longer than their time estimate to do it, so the 10 hour drive I planned to make afterward ended at 3am and not midnight. Oh well.

So the question is- are you collecting cars or empegs?

I've never done this before, but I’ve always wanted to modify my mk1, to sport a mk2 connector on the corner, and not in the middle of the unit.

Or I was thinking about making a type of "L" bracket which would plug into a stock mk1, and give you a mk2 harness adapter in the correct place.

Then I was thinking, it would be really nice just to see if I could purchase a spare metalwork for a mk2 to swap out with my mk1 case.

The problem with an L bracket is the MkI would then stick out of the MkII sled.

Of course it occurs to me that the MkI sled must have some antenna connector on it, so I'll need to get bits for that, too, and not just the (annoyingly expensive for just a connector) RP16. Tempting to replace the connector on the MkI, but then it wouldn't be original. Bah.

Yes. Well, no.

We had 2 cars before, replaced one which was totalled in an accident, and then I bought a 3rd. The catch is the 3rd is an electric vehicle.

Electric? A converted gas vehicle I assume? How much range does it get? I've always wanted an EV for the charm factor, though I've heard most (converted EVs) don't have A/C so it might not be good for my area in the summertime.

I really wouldn't mind if the mk1 stuck out an inch from the dash. I really love how the mk1 looks compared to the mk2.

The Mk2 connector has plenty of extra wire slots the mk1 wouldn't use, so you could setup the antenna wire for say, the cell phone mute, or mic in wires. But, in order to do any of that, yes, hacking up a 300 of a kind of rare collector’s item isn't really the best solution.

We need to come up with some sort of solution to allow use to dock either an mk1, or mk2 in the same cage. Without too much modification to the factory mk1 (this would be where the extra metalwork for the mk2 would really help out alot!).
