I'm having problems with syncs, they fail with "stage 5, 0x80070017 CRC error". I can transfer chunks of data up to about 70Mb at a time, but once it gets beyond that it starts slowing down and eventually fails.

I haven't done may uploads recently, the last time I did a large amount was probably before 1.0, at that point things were rock solid.

When the data starts (or on smaller chunks) it flies at 330kB/s, this is the fastest I have ever seen it...

Setup:
-Mark1 (serial number 47
-Win2k (no service pack)
-USB
-1.01 developer

(large log file posted to bugs@empeg.com)

__
Unit serial number 47 (was 330 in the queue)...

You are not alone, my brudder. I setup a network at home and get Stage 5 0xffffffff synch errors after about 70mb. However, it works at my workplace transferring 650MB at a time. The only difference is the PC. Both run Win2k but one is a Dell and the other is homemade but more powerful/more RAM, etc. i sent a report to EMPEG but have yet to get any sort of feedback. maybe i will send it to support.

Both of these sound like the problem that Tanstaafl was having a while back. Doug... Thoughts?

No, not the same thing, Tony. My problem (along with more than a dozen other people) was that during the upload emplode would just lock up, almost always during the brief "Preparing to upload file" (or something like that) display between each file. After 3--5 minutes, the empeg would time out and say "End of Playlist" and I would have to reboot the PC before emplode could be run again.

Software version 1.01 cured this problem almost entirely -- instead of lockups two out of three times, I now only lock up maybe once out of ten times. This problem strikes only a small minority of users, and may be related to IRQ conflicts. I'm working on that aspect of it now.

The 0xffffffff is -1, which is generally a catch-all error number -- i.e. it doesn't mean anything other than "something went wrong".

Stage 5, on the other hand, is the stage in which the bulk of the upload happens.

In short it's saying: "Uploading your changes failed with an unknown error".

Which isn't terribly useful, which is why we're putting quite a lot of work into v1.1 to make the error messages more understandable.
