Not posting much lately, but trying to keep up (and have kept up mostly).

I just wanted to inflate my post count by saying thanks to all the Men in Red (all men, true?) who have jumped in to keep things humming along. Not only are you all *really* sexy, but you are extremely witty and clever, too!

Thanks, y'all.

(Now I will test the new system with [censored] [censored] [censored] [censored] [censored] [censored] [censored] and will rip off a portion of my wardrobe in full view of the BBS.)

All very true, but red really isn't my color. I want my green back.

Agreed!

And I kind of like that idea on the riocar.org board - help send Drakino to the Amersfoort meet! Assuming he wants to go, of course...

Well, I'll pledge my share in advance

I rekon we could cover the airfare easily between us.

So how about it Tom, do you want to go

Cheers

Cris.

That sound like a seriously good idea. DEN-->AMS looking kinda steep on both United and Nortwest right now, but if Tom is interested and somebody wants to take this on, I'm in.

I'm taking unpaid leave to do the Winter Alcan, and I need to go to my bestest niece's wedding in July, so the chances that I will get to Amersfoort are, well, not so hot (but I'm working on it!).

Actually, I would want to see if he wants to go first. If so, it is far easier for him to book his own ticket and accept donations (assuming PayPal).

Greetings!

I think it would be easier if you had a PayPal account where people could contribute directly. This way, you could, uh, write your own ticket, so to speak... If you have one, please list it. As you can see, there are a number of people interested in helping you get there.

If you do not have PayPal or want someone to act as a coordinator, PM me and we can work out the details.

...logistics...

It's not that. It just does not make sense to purchase another person's ticket for airfare, especially international! As for PayPal, there is no sense doubling up fees by having two layers of transactions.

Rob,
Even though I have never met Tom, I don't see him setting this up on his own. (too humble) Maybe we should start a new thread that he could put his paypal account on. What do you think?

I don't know if he has ever made his paypal address public on this forum. If that's the way you think we should do it, send me a PM and I will let you know the address (unless Tom tells me not to).

I would personally like to hear what he has to say about the topic. He mentioned that he was interested, and the folks on the board just want to show gratitude for all the hard work he has put into this.

As for publishing the PayPal address, it is not too hard to figure out...

Edit: The time for discussion has ended. You have cash! Perhaps not enough to get you all the way there, but it is a start.

For now I have d_checkpaypal@miniinfo.net as an account that does not accept credit card payments (due to the fees). I'll look at getting a second account up here tonight so that I can also accept credit card donations as well.

Use that address, and I'll try to set procmail up to see it, and post live updates to a site.

And, thanks everyone for this. I'm still not exactly sure what to say.

Well, I do have 7 of the 8 e-mail spots used on that PayPal account, I can always fill the last one up with something

Oh good!

Tom, when looking into airfare, your final destination is AMS airport.

But you may (or not) find significant savings by flying to LHR (London), and then making your way to Amersfoort on a second set of tickets (eg. British Midland cost me CDN$220 after taxes return LHR<-->AMS), or possibly via Cambridge..

Cheers

Might i suggest a new General post or announcement with a "get the Drak to Amers." title or something of the sort so everyone will see it?

Or even one of the cheap no-frills airlines (it's only a 45 minute flight after all) - EasyJet flies from London Luton (closest to Cambridge) to Amsterdam.

Luton may be closer, but unless you've got a car London Stansted is much easier to get to from Cambridge than Luton is.

Wrong on both counts. Stansted is closer to Cambridge than Luton (31miles, rather than 38miles), and easier to get to, car or no car.
