Hey just wanted to say Hello everyone. Just bought an Empeg from Ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3077254305
Been wanting one forever. I made a mistake of purchasing a Neo Mp3 player and Im not to happy with it. Anyway I really like looking at some of the "mods" people have come up with for tweaking the software. I cant wait to install some unique boot up graphics. Does anyone know where I can get some new colored lenses possibly? Anyway heres some pics of my old setup with the Neo.

From the Lastest Software link, also in the page header. I recommend the developer version - the shell gives much more versatility for troubleshooting.

Edit: Damn. Gettin' slow in my middle age...

Welcome. And while we're pointing you to links and such, please spend some quality time with the very first link at the top of the page (Empeg FAQ). Ounce of prevention, and all.

Welcome to the BBS! Like Tony said, the FAQ will soon become your best friend. I'd recommend reading through the entire install section before attempting to install. It contains loads of useful nuggets.

Just been reading the FAQ, very informative. I got a question about the ground loop. I never had any problems with looping until my Neo mp3 was installed, constant engine whine problems, this is one of the reasons I got rid of it. Is the empeg the same way with ground issues?

Not particularly, as long as (a) the unit isn't malfunctioning, and (b) you realize that the thing that causes ground loops isn't the stereo itself, it's the fact that you're using a separate amp now and so you have the possibility of the ground potential differing between the amp and the head unit.

In other words, the empeg isn't any more troublesome than any other system made of multiple separate components...

Some have had longstanding problems with whine (for instance, see edsmiata's thread "I give up!!!") OTOH I've had the empeg in two different cars. In the first one with first 2 amps and an additional HU, then with 2 amps only and lastly with just 1 amp. In the second car just with 1 amp - never a problem with ground loop whine. .

Some have had longstanding problems with whine (for instance, see edsmiata's thread "I give up!!!")
In those cases, I'm reasonably certain that the problem isn't with the empeg itself. Those who have solved their problems have always come back and said "Oh, it turns out I used a crappy ground point", or "Oh, my amp was a piece of crap, I replaced it with a better one and the problem is gone," etc. Either that, or it's a malfunction in the empeg such as a loose wire or solder joint. I'm sure edsmiata is something similar, because when he pushes on the on the player the whine goes away.

My answer was referring to the empeg design in general. In other words, I'm saying the Mk2 units aren't any more whine-prone than any other stereo with a separate amp. I'm not saying people haven't had trouble, I'm saying that they haven't had any more instances of trouble than you would expect from a separate-amp installation of any other car stereo.

The Mk1 units are a different story, of course.

Yeah. My response was made in parallell with yours, not as an addition to it. I was decidedly lazy and didn't go into the details of what was the cause in those cases... Figured one could always look up those threads if neccesary.

BTW, I initially had a MkI with the 2-amp setup - also no problem with wine; but I did (as per the instructions) run a ground wire from the amps grounding point to the ground leads of the RCAs.
