anybody successfully working with oggs? I'm having difficulties syncing with the empeg. The only way I can do it is to sync with 2.1, then fill in all tags with 2.0

using alpha7 and hijack374, I get the following results when adding oggs:

emplode 2.0 - wont transfer, says 'not a valid media file'. can correct field data from files synced via emplode 2.1
emplode 2.1 - syncs ok, but it strips the title and all tags from the file. Crashes if I try to edit field data
jemplode v45- syncs ok, but shows '0:0-1' for the time. When I open emplode following a jemplode sync, it tries to correct the files, but says it cant read the metadata.

Yep, 8100 ogg files on my player, including loading another 200 today. I'm going to make a wild-shot-in-the-dark guess that you're using id3 tags on your ogg files.

use jemplode v52. i've been uploading ogg just fine.

jEmplode 54 also works fine w/A3v7 & hijack 374 and my limited .ogg transfers. I can also edit tags & resync, which I cannot seem to do with emplode 2.10. The link is here.

As others have pointed out, the latest 5x versions should support oggs properly ... It wasn't until the post Rio Music Manager Lite jEmplode's that oggs worked properly (since jEmplode by default uses RMML's ogg parser).

thanks, I was under the impression from the jempeg.org page that it only went up to 44 or 45. And when jemplode goes to update, it tries to 'update' my v45 with v44.

I dont relaly know how to upgrade this, I used the windows installer (.exe) originally. I replaced the jemplode.jar in c:\program files\jemplode\lib\ with the new jemplode.jar, but now it wont run, it says:

Speaking of Ogg files, could somebody here please try accessing them through the built-in web playlist browser in Hijack (play/insert/stream/tags..) and let me know if that (untested) code works for Ogg?

is there anywhere I could dl v52? v54 is very buggy, I need to reboot my computer to get a connection to the empeg, and even then it doesnt even sync properly most times

Mark, I've only done some basic playing around with the khttpd and ogg files. "Play" and "tags" work fine, but there's something not right with "stream." I haven't had a chance to do any looking at it, but I will later today. My guess is that it's got to do with how the player knows what codec to use. Winamp seems to do a better job of figuring it out but I use Foobar2000.

Okay, that sounds like it's mostly working then.

The "stream" is likely just a mime-type issue on the PC. The OGG folks were late in deciding on an "official" ogg mime-type, and several pseudo-standards existed before they invented a totally new (different) one. The result is that many media players (PC software) expect differing mime-types than the new official mime-type.

Hijack uses the official one: application/ogg. Blah.. you'd think they'd use an "audio/...." type, but no.. too purist -- in theory, an ogg file could be a photograph rather than a musical track.

mataglap, they arent 'ripped' files perse, but wav tracks created from cdwav. I then use vorbis encode command line to go to ogg.

I dont really use tags, as all the info is contained within the title (for example gd76-12-31d1t01 is the first track of the first disc of grateful dead 12-31-76). But emplode was stripping filenames as well. I tried to fill in tags to see if it would make a difference, same deal. I PM'd you so we can exchange emails if you still want to see an ogg file.

I still would like to get a more stable version of jemplode. The only way I can get v54 to connect is to go into emplode first, then into jemplode.

jemplode always hangs upon 'rebooting player' after syncing

ogg vorbis works fine with streaming with winamp 2.91 popping up, but its freezing/crashing with "reading id3" then "error syncing to mpeg" when i try FLAC files.

I'm pretty sure syncing/networking wasn't changed between 52 and 54, so there might be something else going on there ...

Mark, Yeah, after poking around for few minutes, it is mostly working. When clicking on an actual track it downloads the file but dosn't automatically use the full file name, only up until the first space. (Is there a way to define the format for the file name?)

I didn't look at insert or append, but play does work and they're all using the serial commands.

I think the problem I was having a while ago had more to do with the file extention rather than mime-type, and many of those problems went away when hijack mapped vorbis -> .ogg

jerryfreak2, I've replied to your PM, so let's see what's going on. From your last post, it seems like you want magic to happen somewhere. You need to have your files tagged, because the filename goes bye-bye. (Emplode and jemplode have options to create a filename based on tags when downloading a file from the player back to a PC.)

If you're getting shorten or flac files from various trading trees and such you're going to need to tag them after transcoding to ogg or mp3. I use Tagger and/or Foobar2000. In the end, there isn't any truly simple way to do this, you're going to have to put a little time into it either when ripping from cd or after the fact with a tagging program. All of the decent programs can create tags based on the filename so you don't have to type everything in, but with filenames like the one you used as an example, you're in for a little bit of work. You might be better off using awk/sed/perl to cook up some crazy regexes.

Remember that the car player has been around for a long time and isn't the same thing as an mp3 player you'd get at Best Buy.

tag&rename will.

Tagger and Foobar2000 will both create tags from the filename, I linked both of them in an earlier post.

MP3 Tag Studio will create tags from filenames; or, it will create filenames from tags, either way.

There are also a lot of powerful tools built into the program for mass-setting and modifying tags and filenames across multiple directories.
