There's already a hole there. Up until now, folks have just dangled a stiff Cat5 back there in such a way as to make it easy to grab and snap into place as you dock/undock the unit.

Other folks have already successfully mounted a cat5 cable (with the little tab broken off) and can get ethernet working in the dock. The question is whether it'll last that way. RJ-45 plugs weren't designed to do that, but I have high hopes for it.

The plugs aren't really a problem, at a few cents each. The question is how will the socket stand up?

Will I get any problems if I drill two or three extra holes (in the sled) to screw on my RJ-45 plug-holder ?

(It's a small metal plate with the plug glued to it.)

You shouldn't have problems with that no. Well not with the holes. Getting things to line up neatly and fit is going to be tricky. Unlike the car sled plug who by benefit of its size and the fact that is mounted loosely on the empeg unit (not the sled) allow that one to make an easy connection. For an Rj45 and its plug to line up that neatly is not so easy especially if you have to make your own addon for it.

Yet like others said it is possible ... It's just fiddly work (editorial: the word 'fiddly' used without express permission of Rob) ...

Good luck though.
Hans
