anyone know of a program that will convert mp3s from one bitrate to another without manually having to manually decode and reencode? it would save me quite a bit of time for a project that i am working on.

Surely this would only be useful for going down bitrates? If you go from 128 -> 160 it's going to sound the same, since the original sound wave has already lost it's informtion in the translation to 128.

I think you'll need to go back to the original source (or at least the .WAV).

going from higher to lower is exactly what i am looking for. we are recording voice at 96 kbps as the master copies, but for efficiency purposes, we will need to cut that down some to be able to distribute it. right now, we can decode the 96 kbps file to a wav, then reencode it back at a lower rate, but it is a pain to do that for every file. it would be alot easier if there were a program to automate the process into one step for the end user.

I have MusicMatch Jukebox version 4.5 and it allows you to convert MP3 bitrates on the fly.
