'Vertigo' will be played for the first time Thursday on the Dave Fanning show. It should hit airwaves near you Friday. I am so excited for it. If it doesn't somehow get leaked before, at least I know I will get it Friday! 'Neon Lights' is a cover song that will only be on the 'Vertigo' Single available Nov. 8th. More info on that here.

This thread is the first time, in my memory of this board, that members have openly discussed downloading an MP3 in circumstances that smack of "Piracy".
Whilst I'm not so bothered about the track, or U2's intellectual property rights, I am bothered that it has happened on this BBS.
A little while ago you saw a rant from me about my attitude to the piracy messages now being shown in the cinema, so how come I make a comment like this?
No idea. If I could explain why I feel uncomfortable about it, I would do so. I am only bothered that given the legally aggressive tactics employed by various rights holders associations, this board could get it in the neck. The loss of this board if it was closed down would be appalling to me.
Please don't risk it.

Dave Fanning always gets to play the new U2 releases. This dates back to the '70s when Dave gave them air time on a pirate radio station he worked at, and later when he got a job at the state run radio station he still works at after what 25 years. Yikes, I'm starting to feel old.

Heh. I find it funny that these posts were deleted due to piracy concerns but then it's pointed out that U2 supports this DJ because he used to run pirate radio.
Arrr, matey.

If you just want to hear it, you might be able to hear it on web radio... According to this page, a station in Melbourne with webradio is claiming they will be playing it in a few hours from now (4.5 hours from now if I'm not wrong). Otherwise it will be on the radio on Friday.

Damn, downloading MP3's? How 90's. I'm running the new MInd2Disc software. All you need is the IP address of your favorite artist's brain and you can stream a copy of anything they've recorded, or will soon record, direct to your hard drive. Keep in mind you have to run it in multi-process mode if you want each band member's instruments. Version 2 will be out soon and it will allow for a full orchestral download in one sitting (well, up to 255 individuals anyway).
What's better than having the song even before it's been mastered? If you're really lucky, you catch the band on a night after a bender and you get a really limited special remix. There's a plugin available that's compatible with producer's brains too, but it's still a bit buggy.

Two new websites are up:
http://www.howtodismantleanatomicbomb.com/
http://www.htdaab.com/
Now you can always know how long until the CD is released!
I love how we've gone from Pop (throwing in HMTMKMKM), to ATYCLB, and now HTDAAB. I guess all the short song and album names are taken.

Hey Drakino, WHY exactly was my post deleted? I will BUY THE CD when it is released!!! I only want to hear the song! not rip it off...if i were asking if anyone has heard it on the radio, which a person could easily copy as well, it wouldn't be deleted....people easily forget that.....

Because it is still illegal. You may not think it is immoral, but regardless of whather it is or not, that does not change the fact that it is indeed illegal.

Plus, Drakino has a big, active, extremely high quality board to run on his own time and money. If I were him and there was a post that I thought was questionable, I'd delete it too. I wouldn't waste time splitting hairs on what the possible future intentions behind the post were.

Get this: Copyright law governs who has the right to copy something (hence the name). At the moment, the law states that, unless given, sold or traded, the right to copy something rests with the original producer of a work.
In the case of this album, that's U2 (or their record label, depending on their contract).
So, until they tell you that you are allowed to copy the song, you can't. Tough.

A. It is not illegal, I even talked to someone today who works with cybercrime in Minnesota (she came into where I work.) B.) A streaming version would be fine....I don't need to download it...i just want to hear it.....Thanks Drakino for the explanation..I now understand why.....and just so you know.... you do an awesome job with this board! .....

PM is Private Message. Click on the "My Home" link at the top of the page.
And a tip: Don't argue with the board admin if you want to keep using the board. The BBS is a private entity and he's got the right (and the power) to delete anything on the board for any reason, or ban any user for any reason.
Remember that he's not in a position to decide upon the legality of a given matter, his primary goal is to avoid even the appearance of things illegal. The site's host could easily shut the board down if they thought there was something to be suspicious of. We simply don't want there to be any reason to shut the board down, so the board members need to behave.

I think we all know that the chance of this BBS being a target is nil. I think it's just the standard of this community, and I support that. And I don't think he was being arguementative either. We all respect the decision.

I think this is where the confusion is. I believe we were under the impression that you wanted to download an MP3 or something. Streaming media would be legal.
Part of the reaction to this post was the first response which spoke of an illegal source for the song, for which you then asked for more detail. That source was for an actual MP3, which, regardless of who you talked to, is indeed illegal since you do not own the album now.

My apologies for contributing to this illegal behavior. I can see why y'all don't want that kind of discussion on the board...
I am a big U2 fan, and I like hearing albums before they are released, if possible... It's kinda like seeing a sneak preview of a movie...

Sorry for bringing this back to life, but I thought I would mention that Vertigo is available on iTunes. And if you are a big U2 fan, The Egde has been posting over at www.interference.com for the last couple days!
