I was wondering that very thing when I was writing that post. The camera I have is the S410. I checked Canon's website for info and all it says is: "Storage Media Compact Flash (CF) Card Type I." It mentions nothing about CF card size limits. In the table below, though, it only shows what the number of recordable images is up to 512mb CF cards. This makes me a little apprehensive about getting the 1gb card. _________________________ - trs

It may be somewhat camera dependent, but most cameras I've seen are fine up to 2Gigs (due to the fat16 partition size limit). Any higher end camera made in the last couple years should support fat32 and therefore much larger drive sizes, but I'm not sure about the basic point and shoots. Steve's Digicams claims that the S410 can handle any capacity CF Type 1 card, so you should be ok. Even if it doesn't work, you could easily make $20 - $30 on eBay for it.

The standard was developed from the PCMCIA ATA devices that existed ages ago, and somewhat still do with the rebirth of the 1.8 inch hard drives. Only limits will be similar ones to IDE hard drives in desktops, thus the 2 gig barrier of FAT 16, then possibly an 8 gig issue, then a 30ish gig, then a 127gb limit. Unlike Sony and their idiotic decision to limit the first memory stick somewhere around 256mb I believe.

A bit more on shipping, but should be well worth it in most situations. The price of CF is falling rapidly these days. It's kind of a toss up between buying now and lock in the price or waiting a few weeks and seeing how low it'll go. <Insert anecodote about 8MB smart media cards costing more than this When I Was Young> Matthew
