So, there's a laptop on a network. It needs to have MS Office installed. The laptop seems to function normally. However, when the CDROM for Office is inserted, the setup is run, and we see the boxes for the product key, there is no way to type anything into the boxes. In addition to that, there is a timer which, when expired, removes the boxes from the window.

I mention that the laptop is on the network because it was also attempted to run the setup from a CDROM drive on another PC. The same thing happened. When the setup is run on any other PC, whether using a CDROM attatched to the computer or across the network, it works normally.

Any ideas?

Permissions issue on the laptop? User logged in with an account that has administrator-level privileges?

No ideas? I'd really appreciate an answer to this. I could get some brownie points for it Not that I wouldn't credit my sources, of course

Are you using a Windows Domain?

If in a domain, have domain users & administrators been granted local user rights on this particular machine (notably local administrator rights)?

If in a domain, is the machine's account in an Active Directory Organizational Unit that would preclude software installation?

Can you install other pieces of software from CD?

Can you copy the installation files to the hard drive and run the installer that way?
