I'm hoping that as S3 prompotes the Empeg, it'll be getting more of this kind of press from MSNBC and the like. PhatNoise is garbage. I can't wait until S3's acquisition starts to lead to actual promotion and advertisement for the Empeg. I feel like a damn sales representative at work when people ask me questions... It's cool to be the only person you know with a new techno toy, but at the same time, I'd like to see the Empeg everywhere. PhatNoise, besides having a terribly stupid name, is total crap, and doesn't deserve this kind of publicity.

I agree but I doubt that we'll see the empeg everywhere. Everyone who saw my cool Mk2 was very impressed, but after asking about the price they tell me that it's too much. (Don't understand that as critism! I HAVE bought one and I understand why it's so expensive). I think the price border for the mass of interested people would be around 700-800$. Then it'd be sold a lot more times.

As empeg now has joined SonicBlue it'll maybe get possible someday to mass-produce the empeg and get lower prices per unit for the customers.
But other companys don't sleep, too and are recognizing that there's a great interest in having mp3 in car. (OK - till now noone else has brought up such a great product like empeg has)

I demoed it to somebody recently, someone who was pretty savvy, and his first question after the demo was "is it under $1000.00?"

He seemed to have a good grasp of consumer price points.

(Again, I make the same disclaimer, the empeg is worth every penny, I knew that even before I owned one.)

Hmmm.. curious that apparently, Phat Noise has a deal with Visteon - I thought that empeg had done a jukebox for Visteon?

I feel the same about Phatnoise myself, last time I checked you couldn't get one, and they were slated to be available late Summer '99. I can see it as an OEM car acc.that would soon be replaced by the owner with a upgraded Empeg system

Hm, the press release describes empeg a.k.a. Rio-Car as some futuristic prototype, not a mature product shipping for over a year...
