Neuros has the right idea to achieve techie acceptance: opening up their platform completely.

From Slashdot.org:
Quote:
"Neuros Audio has released the schematics to their Neuros Digital Audio Computer. Now with open source firmware, hardware schematics, ogg support, tons of other cool features, and an amazing price tag, The Neuros is looking like an awesome competitor in the audio player market."

As to the quality of that platform...to this I cannot speak...

this thing looks cool. The integrated FM transmitter and play from PC look like great ideas.

It will never fly as a consumer device. Too much mixed messaging on their web page. They're all over the place and don't know exactly what their product is. If they don't know what it is, there's no way the consumer will.

Putting the word "computer" into the product tag line = instant death (without all the other problems they have).

The quality of the platform is, errr, interesting. I've never seen so many power supply chips in a product before!

Not necessarily a good starting point if you want to make a HDD audio player - you'd be better off using the example schematics from one of the CPU vendors, which generally describe leaner & meaner systems.

Still, interesting approach anyway!

True, but the fact that it is an open/published architecture will draw a certain crowd which will hopefully bring forth other interesting features.
