I'm looking to purchase two or three extra RioCar/Empeg players. Drives not needed, perfect working order not necessarily required.
If you have one for sale, or one that you'd be willing to sell to me, then please email me ASAP: mlord at pobox dot com
Thanks!

I appreciate your sincere concern, but these would be for a more benign purpose. I'm preparing a week-long course on embedded Linux programming, to be run a few times this year. We need an embedded platform for the programming exercises, and this just happens to be one of the more interesting ones under consideration. And hey.. if I can expand my empeg collection as a biz expense, well..

Heh heh. I like your style of thinking. It sounds like an interesting course -- if you were local, I'd consider taking it.

Ooo.. are the courses for a particular client, or available to anyone? At what sort of level will they be pitched?

A bit too advanced for someone of your background, I suspect. Especially the lab portions..

If you're still in LA, I actually am "local" there 2-3 times a year! But maybe not for much longer, 'least if I don't pay more attention to my clients there! Or, rather, in Irvine.
Cheers

It goes without saying that my entire engineering background was sucked out of me the day someone added "Manager" to my job title. Early warning systems have been installed to mobilise the population of Cambridge in the event that I should even approach a soldering iron.
Nonetheless, I remain interested on behalf of some of my staff-to-be!

Heh heh.. I know that menace well. When they tried that out on me, I started hacking OS/2 and then Linux in all of my "free" hours to compensate. Eventually this enabled me to cut free from the M-word shackles, and get back to real life on my own!
This course is being developed for delivery to a specific client, twice in the next six weeks or so, but I anticipate having it made available to others after the initial runs.
Currently the content and pace are geared to match the needs of the lead customer (always a good strategy to bootstrap a new product). At the end of the week, it should leave them at a point where they could intelligently discuss embedded Linux systems with anyone from the Cambridge team.
Whether they could "make that team" or not afterward, would depend much more heavily on their individual capabilities than on anything I can show them during the week. I'm hoping they aren't quite that far along yet, so that they'll be happier with the content of the course (the hope of instructors everywhere?).
Cheers!

Do you think you could have your students right a bit of an open source player during each course, so eventually we have a complete application? Rob

Heh he.. Actually, I was going to have them write a micro-FTP server, that supports PASsiVe mode, to replace the one in Hijack!

Just make sure you keep a very careful watch on your players that your students do not, uh, "acquire" one for themselves... After seeing what they can do, you may have a theft problem on your hands...

You should record the class and post it on the FAQ page so us programming newbies can take it

I have one that boots, appears to run, you can debug it, copy files to and from, but does not have audio out... the DSP has been replaced by Stuart at Eutronix with no luck.
Would that one fit your purposes?

If you need another embedded linux platform for your course- then you might consider a Hauppage MediaMVP.. I have one very cheap in this very forum.

I'm in SoCal as well, San Diego to be exact, but get to LA often. Is it time to try and pull together a empeg meet?

Oh, don't worry about my thread here now! No longer want the players -- couldn't get enough of them in time.
