Anyone planning to make an order from DigiKey in the not so distant future and wouldn't mind ordering a couple of extra components and mail them to me? I'll pay for the components and shipping, of course... I could order them myself, but with 8 euro worth of components and 31 euro for shipping and handling, they would be quite expensive and I don't need anything else at the moment...

I order from Digikey about once a month. I order from mouser and alliedelec.com far more often, if what you need is there. What do you need?

It's a USB/serial chip called TUSB3410VF (Digi-Key partno 296-12699-ND). I checked mouser and alliedelec.com, but they didn't seem to have it.

Are you in a big hurry? It's about $11 usd shipping on it's own, but it would be insigificant next time I buy from them.
Digikey does seem to carry a lot of components that the others don't (I get my Burr-Brown stuff there), but is usually more expensive.

No, I'm not in that much of a hurry, so if you can grab a couple of those chips next time you order from Digi-Key, that would be great. You are able to receive PayPal paid with CC, I hope?

No, no paypal account for me. Don't worry, we'll work something out. You want only 2?

Yes, I need only 2 (actually, I only need one, but I'd like to get one extra, just in case... ) I can probably get a money order easily enough. I guess sending some dollars in an envelope isn't recommended...? Btw, do you have a guesstimate about when you'll send the order? Stig

I guess sending some dollars in an envelope isn't recommended...? That's what people say... but I have done it many times and never had the slightest problem. The only advantage to sending a money order is that way you have proof that the recipient received it. If there is trust on both sides of the transaction, then why bother? I mean, the post office is handling millions (maybe even billions?) of letters and parcels every day. They do *not* have time to examine each letter in the hope that there might be cash in it that they can steal! tanstaafl.

I've heard that if you're going to send cash bills by regular mail, you should put them inside a greeting card so that someone can't hold it up to the light and see the bill.

I also have heard/read somewhere that it is illegal to send US money in the mail, hence my question. For small amounts like this, it probably wouldn't be any problem.

That's why the Post Office sells money orders. They cost 90¢ up to $500 and $1.25 for $500 to $1000. It's not like that's going to break the bank. Unless one of you is not in the US. (Can't tell.)

And you can get the postal inspectors involved in any fraudulent activity when you use money orders. Back in my retail days, that was the only money order we'd accept.

I'm not in the US... I don't know if our post offices sell money order, but I checked with Amex a couple of years ago and there the money order were about 10USD.

I think you can send a money order using BidPay even if you're outside the US. http://www.bidpay.com/

I thought sending money was illegal since if it were thought that mail carriers were carrying possible cash there would be more instances of people mugging mail carriers.

There's no such restriction in 39 USC 3001-3017, "Nonmailable matter". (Makes you wonder what sorts of energy are mailable....)
Also, the USPS web site implies that it's not illegal:
Quote: A money order is much safer to send through the mail than cash because it can only be cashed by the person it’s made out to, and it can be replaced if lost or stolen.
