Don't know how flush everyone is after Christmas, giving to disaster aid etc., but as part of my usual yearly self abuse I'm running the Paris marathon in April, and raising money for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children - as well as losing some of the unneeded weight I put on over the festive period. I would be very grateful to anyone who would like to sponsor me: Online fundraising page Or alternatively, for Comic Relief myself and a colleague from work are intending to climb one mile at the Ratho Adventure Centre. The climb we intend to use is about 100ft (rated hard/severe on the UK grading system - that's about a 6A) so that'll be about 55 climbs. And obviously we'll do something silly like dye our hair red and shave a mohawk into it. I'll get a sponsorship page for that up as well. [DJ Nicey] Y'know it's all for charideee, mate [/DJ Nicey]

In what period of time? 55 pitches of 6a/5.11b is quite a haul! You're a hardman.

I dunno... he sounds a bit soft in the head, to me...

Well - We reckoned if we didn't die, we could do it in ten hours...so the plan is to get 3 pairs. Myself and Dougie will do this climb, and the other folks will do some easier climbs...there are a few 15m climbs at 5 and 5+, so we should be able to do it.
The climbing centre staff are up for supporting us as well, so we may even be able to grab a few of them to belay, which could mean six of us up the wall at a time...again reducing the elapsed time.
If it's any consolation, they too think we are mad - especially as I'll have a month to recover before the marathon.

Yay - looks like we'll get on the telly as well, so I'm definitely getting a red mohican. At last, a perfectly valid excuse to look mental at work

My colleague Dougie who I have organised this with is the hardman - he is planning to wear a 4 foot read nose on his back to make it more difficult, and he plans to climb one pitch blindfolded...
But then he is nails - holds the Scottish under 21's pole-vault record, and although he works for the same firm as me, he is training to become a stuntman!!
