I'm putting my empeg up on ebay. Voice recognition proved too tempting for me to resist. ;) Here's the URL: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=318363604

You can feel free to email me with any questions. Thanks go to xeno@inforamp.net for permitting me to use his HTML as a base for my listing.

Very odd. Tracking the recent Empeg auctions on e-bay, I see that on 4/18 natales sold a 10-gig Empeg for $1,225. Two days later, nasalgoat sold a 4-gig empeg for $1,585.00

I know that e-bay markets can be a bit screwy, but that's quite a discrepancy for units that were sold within two days of each other.

Cool. NasalGoat made out like a bandit.

So, are the lucky buyers of these units patrons of this message board? If so, welcome to our little community (soon to be not-so little when the Mark2's start shipping in quantity).

Yeah, I noticed that too. There is a logic, if you know how to look for it.

I am the lucky man who nabbed that empeg from natales for $1,225 on ebay! I had my eye on that unit the whole time and I striked at the last minute.

What was so appealing about this particular unit was that it had a newer serial number (00342) (he had just aquired it in November) and he had only used it as a desktop player - never installed in a car. So basically it seemed like a new one to me. He provided me all the accessories - some still un-opened (most important was the empeg stickers!! ). He shipped to me FedEx next day air for only an additional $20 so here I am enjoying my newest (and most current favorite) toy!

I just finished installing it into my car and it sounds sweet! I integrated it into my exsisting sound system - Kenwood CD head unit, 4-way 250 watt Kenwood amp powering front/rear speakers and a Kenwood 150 watt amp powering the sub. My only complaint is that the empeg "Kenwood" remote also operates my Kenwood head unit - sort of a pain. I'll have to find out how to disable the IR pickup on the head unit.

One HAPPY empeg owner!!

When all else fails, use brute force. (Black tape over the IR sensor.)

That makes a difference to you? Hmm, maybe I should indicate that...since it actually *hasn't* been installed in my car.
Though I don't know if I can find those empeg stickers... ;)

Me too. I've mentioned this before on the BBS: Remember when AOL first allowed its members to access Usenet? It went from small, tightly-knit communities like this to what it is today almost overnight. I no longer access Usenet except to search for stuff via DejaNews. The signal-to-noise ratio on Usenet is just too poor nowadays. I hope that the buyers of the Empeg Mark 2 units will generally be more intelligent than the lowest common denominator of AOL subscribers.

I think I can assure you that this place won't go downhill when people start hearing about this product. I've been a member of the Klipsch bulleting board since January and we've had some troublemakers but overall we are all very civilized. And that's a product very similar to this one in that it isn't all that well known, and very high quality.

Plus I don't think the kind of people who would spend around $1200 on anything would be likely to cause any trouble :)

You can always set up an Elitist empeg BBS if it gets to be a problem :-)

Hey, everybody, I think Rob just accused me of being an elitist.

Actually, I'd be the first to admit it. But I don't think that complaining about the S/N ratio on Usenet is being elitist. Now, filtering my incoming mail to bounce all AOL addresses, that would be elitist...

Hey, everybody, I think Rob just accused me of being an elitist.

Judging by the number of numpties discussing the EmVAX on /., I'll join you in the Elitist group please. Plenty of slagging off of the Empeg and praise for what appears to be a boot installed server farm for less than tuppence ha'penny from some college student.

People want Empeg functions/features without the Empeg price. Frankly, you can't have your cake and eat it, too; the rule of thumb that you get what you pay for still stands...

On another note, I'm in mourning. I traded my 6GB green Empeg (Serial #311) straight up today for a barely-used Sony GDMW900 24" monitor w/ HDTV support (MSRP=US$2300.00). Given that I'm upgrading to a Mark2 as soon as possible, it made sense ... but it's very quiet in my car, now; I keep forgetting to bring CDs with me.

Do I need to inform the folks at Empeg about the change in ownership (so that the new owner can get service and such)??? I don't want to trouble them with it unless it's necessary.

In reply to:

Along the same lines... I purchased my empeg from the original owner. Does that mean I can benefit from the Mark 2 shipping date policy ("The player will ship initially to those clients who previously deferred their purchase and to existing owners who choose to upgrade" - taken from the March 29th newsletter)??

I am already registered in the shipping queue (I registered in January) but if by owning a Mark 1 helps me get a Mark 2 quicker then... great!

(Look at me. Just bought a Mark 1 a week ago and already wanting a Mark 2. Pathetic... )

The original purchaser of your player gets to skip the queue and receive a 15% discount, but you don't, sorry!

You can buy a Mark 2 using your original queue position, though.

Awwwwww..... But what if the original purchaser will never buy another empeg? What if he authorizes me by notifying you?

There will be a mechanism for original purchasers to pass on their Mark 2 special offer to the new owner of the player. If asked, we will do so at our discretion - although I can't foresee a circumstance in which we might refuse (other than there being certain countries that we can't ship to).

I would point out that most car players currently on the second hand market are there because their original owner plans to purchase a Mark 2.

That was my reasoning! And I actually made money selling my used Empeg. Now that's resale value!
