I saw War last night and have to say that it was by far the most frightening movie I've seen in a long, long time. If you haven't seen this yet, do yourself a favor and go!

Yeah, I thought they did a decent job of straddling the George Pal version and the original book version. Right down to the birds flying around the machines at the end (book), and the "eye" probe in the farmhouse (Pal).

Had to force myself to suspend disbelief at the beginning. They went to a lot of trouble to tell us that the alien arrival caused an EMP that fried all electronics, yet when the first machine comes out, we see people using working camcorders.

Oh yeah, no disagreement there, but the ones I noticed were at the beginning and very end (a big one, but I don't want to spoil it for anyone - if you've seen it you know what I mean), and didn't detract from the heart of the movie. The vast majority of the film was just edge of seat scary. I was rooting for the aliens (my 'Root for Chuckie/Jason' ploy), but this only helped for the first 30 minutes or so. After that Spielberg had me.

It pays to view this movie in a theater with a terrific sound system. The etherial groans and moans of the alien machines and the fantastic explosions will literally rock your seat.

Not unless you have a kick-ass theater at home where nobody spoils your edge-of-the-seat experience with some lame popcorn-based remarks.

Surely you'll be waiting a while then.

Here's a link to the radio show(and more):

EDIT: It seem that the "show" is only five minutes long...I'm trying the torrent feed now. But that might just be a collection of "shorts".
