I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a PC jukebox that's also a shoucast-type server. It needs the ability to play music at random until a song is requested. Once the requested tune ends, it needs to go back to random. Streamsicle is almost perfect, but its webpage sucks on a PDA (likely control method) and to modify the HTML, I would have to edit the Java source and re-compile it myself. I'm totally not down with that (especially since I don't have a Java compiler).

I was looking at MusicLobby, but there is no indication that it streams or that it will play music at random on the PocketPC version.

Andromeda doesn't seem like it plays music at random either. Only when requested.

So, anyone have a recommendation for what I'm looking for? It doesn't need to be free.

I use DVDLobby myself to control my Sony DVD changer via my PDA.

My understanding of how Music Lobby works is that it's just a front end for J River Media Center 10, so if J River does what you want MusicLobby PPC would be perfect, the userinterface on a PDA is near perfect IMO.

Cheers

I have to give out my life story to get a link to download a trial. It may be what I'm looking for, but it seems I won't be able to trial the PPC version. Only the PC version.

Maybe it would be better to just use Streamsicle, but get a better method to control it. The Nokia 770 looks like it would be perfect, but it isn't out yet. Is there any other device like this. Small, light, 802.11 device who's primary purpose is viewing web pages? Also should be reasonably cheap.

Yea, thats the problem I had, you can't trail the PPC versions at all. Check that you need to buy the full version of MusicLobby just to use the PPC version, DVDLobby PPC for example talks directly to the server software, which is a free download, so you don't need to buy the full app if all you want is the PPC interface, the Music version may be different?

The PPC app is just a flash interface that runs max'd in the PPC webbrowser, seems to work fine for me, very simple to use.

Cheers

Unfortunately, development on it kind of died. I was very excited by it, but when I started using it I found it to be quite buggy.

Have you looked at SlimServer? In addition to talking to Squeezeboxes, it can also talk to a software Squeezebox simulator, and they do support ShoutCast streams and have some kind of PDA front-end in addition to the usual web front-end. The interface is a little more like an empeg than the streaming idea you want, but it's pretty close and could probably be hacked to go the rest of the way.
