Since installing the Mark2 (with its ignition-sense wire, something the Mk1 didn't have), I've been doing the following:

- Park the car.
- Turn off the ignition.
- Empeg goes into sleep mode while it's still THIS BLOODY LOUD.
- Realize it's going to be THIS BLOODY LOUD when I restart the car. Oops, better turn that back down so I don't give myself or my passengers a heart attack when I get back in.
- Wake the empeg up again and turn down its volume.
- Put the empeg into sleep mode.
- Pull it from the dash and exit the car.

An alternate version is to wait and not shut off the ignition until I've turned down the empeg.

But if there were a way to have the empeg automatically turn itself down by 20db when I turn on the ignition, then it would simplify things:

- Park the car.
- Turn off the ignition.
- Not worry about how loud the empeg is going to be when I restart the car.

Some folks have requested an automatic-ramp-the-volume-back-up feature, but I wouldn't want that at all. I just want it to start off with the volume turned down when it first gets the ignition-on signal in the car. (Obviously, you wouldn't want this to happen on AC power, only in the car.)

Anyone see any disadvantages to this? I think it could be something that was just a permanent always-on feature, no need to make it configurable.

Well, then, I'll just sit over here in this corner and shut up.

I like the idea, but am sure the people running the empeg through a head unit would want this to be configurable, since most are running the empeg at 0db in car and home.

Yes, I'd rather see it configurable because I am in the habit of turning down the volume before I turn off the car.

Yes, I'd rather see it configurable because I am in the habit of listening to my empeg at the same volume setting all the time.

Agreed - me too - it'd really annoy me having to turn up the volume *every* time I get in the car...

From what Hugo said, it sounds like the volume will ramp up to your original setting. So you won't have to turn it up.

This is going to sound really petty and small-minded, but...

One of the things I like to do is get some unsuspecting victim into my totally stealth-installed stock appearing station wagon for the first time, and fire up the stereo with Rush's "Tom Sawyer" all cued up. It's not going to sound very effective if the volume ramps up, sliding into that explosive first note.

I'd still prefer to have the volume be the same as it was when I turned it off. Does anybody (i.e., Hugo) have any idea of how long this ramping up process will take?

I don't want any sort of ramping up, as I connect my empeg via another stereo...
So I always leave it at 0db...

Any changes like this should be configurable (and defaulted to current behaviour), otherwise people will ask for changes, then other people will moan about the changes... etc...

At least that's my experience with software development... =)
