Is the Rio Car only going to be sold via the US website ?

If it is does this mean a stealth price increase for us in the UK (i.e. are going to get hit by customs duty if we buy one) ?

Rio Car will be available from a UK web store as well as the US store. The empeg store will also remain open to sell to a number of other countries not covered by the two SONICblue stores (mostly Europe and Australasia). There are a few countries we will not list (either because we're fed up with the high incidence of attempted card fraud, or because local customs departments are not cooperative) however our store manager (Andrew) may be able to make special arrangements from time to time.

Later in the year the product will also start to appear in car audio specialist stores.

I imagine that the UK store isn't active yet? I can't seem to find it - the UK link on the riohome.com site takes me to a list of downloads.

I'm trying to source some receivers but I'm not paying extorsionate shipping/duty for them to be imported.

The receiver hasn't been launched in the EU yet. I believe it will be fairly shortly - until then, your only choice is getting it from the USA...
