Maybe this is is old news here, but I ran across this in Wired 13.09 ...

Free CAD program, submit to shop, select quantity & material and they fabricate and deliver. Maybe something to think of for the handle replacement job?

It was mentioned over here pretty recently and commented on as being very expensive.

I've not read the links, but as a machine tool designer I can tell you that almost all custom 1-off/short-run machine work is very expensive, and is even more expensive if you need the parts ASAP/immediately. A typical low volume lead time is 3-4 weeks ARO.

Well, they are very rapid - check their promised turn-round times - and are excellent for prototyping where the cost is not important (!). However, their costs are not excessive - just high.

All those guys which claim "rapid tooling" and other quick production (non-prototype) are far understating their turn-around times. At least for me they were. The rapid tooling and rapid injection molding processes seem clever on paper, but none of the manufacturers were willing to offer them for the button project. Ah, it was probably the small part details.
