It's time for another edition of "what on earth is that thing hanging out on my lime tree?" This is a super-duper macro close-up of... something. I have no idea what, but there are several of them on my lime tree, each is about 5mm long.

Ideas?

I'm guessing it's the pupa/chrysalis of ...something. Maybe just wait to see what comes out, and identify it then?

I just watched this on a cooking show.

And now, for our continuing installment of "Strange Things I Found Eating My Garden", check out this Texas-sized grasshopper. Apparently, they're normally green until they eat something particularly noxious, after which they assume this uglier black & yellow color. This particular fellow is dining on my lemon tree.





I only wish I'd had the camera around the other day when I found a stick bug (maybe 4 inches long) crawling through a bush.

Stick bugs rule!!! Them and preying mantis. It's cool to watch a bug just kind of look around and size up the situation. Kind of like those tiny fuzzy spiders which lean left, lean right, lean left, lean right, then LEAP like 10 feet; as if they're calculating their trajectory before hand.

This particular grasshopper is probably a good three inches from head to tail and was completely oblivious to me taking pictures of him.

Holy cow, that's texas sized all right. He seemed oblivious because he knew you weren't a threat: if you tried anything, he'd kick your ass.
