I've got to go to London on Thursday for a meeting at BT Tower, to be honest I'm going for the trip up the tower more than the meeting. I have a fundamental problem with paying over £200 for a return ticket myself so I've decided that I might as well drive there instead, it also means I can drop in on some friends in Birmingham on the way back.

My question is, if I need to be at the tower for 10AM where would be the best place to park? I'm happy to park outside the congestion charge zone and walk/bus/tube to the tower. Any suggestions? I'll have TomTom with me so I'm confident I'll get where I need to be.

My god! £200! I just checked thetrainline.com and the best price was £212! Amazing!

Can't help much with the parking, as when I went up the tower, BT paid 1st class on GNER but if I remember right it's quite a walk from the nearest tube.

Enjoy your trip, are you going right to the top?

Edit - 2 Single tickets with Virgin come out at £113 if it makes the difference?

Cheers

Cris.

As far as I'm aware it's the full tour. We've just done 1 million quids worth of business with them and they want to milk us for some more. So they're eager to please.

All our travel stuff is claimable, but I'll end up waiting nearly 2 months to get it back, so I'd rather only shell out for £50-odd for two tanks of petrol. I've already spent £400 this month on work stuff.

When I worked on the Broadcasting House project I used to walk from Euston and back. All good exercise!

There are quite a few carparks in the East End £5-8 per day

It's years since I had to go to central London regularly, but I found that the best way was to cut across to Wembley Park, which is two stops on the Metropolitan Line to Baker Street, which, in turn, is reasonable walking distance to the PO tower. Of course this was before the M40 and I was coming from the M1.
However, it may well be possible to park at Uxbridge, just off the M40 and do the same.

Lowest BMI baby flight down would have been £12, not that it's available this late: The railways seem geared to the business traveller and those with concessions, these days.

Uxbridge map shows 4 car parks, within 250 yards of the station: I don't know what they cost. Met is 40 mins to Baker Street - leisurely stroll to the PO Tower: I'd say that if you're parking by 8.30, it'll be easy. Of course, tube prices are extortion now, to pay for Ken Livingstone's excesses!
