I will soon be getting a new car, which means I will have to transfer my Empeg, amp and mobile phone carkit. As I will have this done by a professional installer, I might as well ask to have a second microphone be mounted in the car, in case the voice recognition software ever gets released (I hope you don't think ';m getting too optimistic).

What kind of microphone should I use for VR? The same as for my mobile phone carkit? Or could they even be shared?

Their in-car mike appears to have been withdrawn. No sign of automotive partners (=resellers??) either.

Probably not, as condenser mikes, like the ones in cell phones and CP car kits, are made to pick up EVERYTHING in the immediate vicinity. This is the exact opposite of what an array mic does: Determine where the speaker is and focus the sound pick-up on them.
