A sad sad day. Pluto will remain forever in my heart as the 9th planet. Here they were trying to add Planet X and they wound up getting Planet Ex-.

Wikipedia entry

The consequences of them keeping Pluto, though, would be pretty grave. In no time, the solar system would end up like the .com domain name space.

Backlash begins.

Either way it looks like a fertile source of trivia questions: Q. When was Pluto not the outermost planet? A. c.2000BC-1930AD (ignorance) 1979-1999 (orbital dynamics) 2006-2008 (politics).

But think of the consequences now! Kids will have to think up entirely new mnemonics!
