How do you recycle CDR/DVDR media? I always thought that was one of the more difficult things to do?

Just had a chat with them, they ship them (by sea) to Hong Kong where they are ground down and turned into "other plastic products" this is because:

a) there are no European processors/market
b) they're utilising the fact that a lot of vessels return to the Far East at least partially empty

They don't process data tapes.

Is there something different in recycling this type of thing over other kinds of plastic ?

Probably the aluminum embedded in them. Also, polycarbonate falls into the number 7 "Other" plastic recycling category in the US, which virtually no one will deal with.
