I'm thinking of selling up as I don't use my empeg any more and have an urgent "want" for a Nikon 70-300mm VR lens.

What's the current "guide price" in UK£ for the following:

- A Mk2a with 36Gb capacity, remote, sled, original fabric case with empeg logo, various coloured lenses (3 or 4) etc. Recently serviced by Rob in Cambrige. Excellent condition

- An original tuner in full working order

- A spare soft case with empeg logo still sealed in plastic bag

Not that I doubt you at all, but I didn't know MK2a's came with the soft case and 36 gigs of storage (as opposed to 10, 20, 30, 60 gig).

Twin 18GB drives, I believe.

They didn't come with soft cases but when I bought mine, IIRC there was an offer on and you got a soft case for free, and I also got a spare due to excess postage being charged for my tuner delivery
(http://empegbbs.com/ubbthreads/showflat....=true#Post39396)

And it came with 20Gb but shortly after getting it I swapped the drives for 2 x 18Gb IBM drives.

I've owned it from new and bought it before the fire sale (i.e. Paid almost £1000 for it)

So anyone want to put a price on it's value?

£100 for the tuner
£50 for the case

Or thereabouts.

Cool, thanks Phil

Anyone interested in any of it before I chuck it on ebay?

I think that's a bit generous on the values, though things could be different over there. To sell reasonably quickly in the US, I'd estimate the price at $275, $150 and $50 respectively. Of course, I'm a bottom feeder of the for sale forum, so perhaps my valuations are low.

I appreciate what your saying, and thats ok for a US sale. But the weak dollar doesn't mean the UK price should drop.

wouldn't a "weak dollar" make the us prices higher.... since more "weak dollars" would be needed to arrive at the same value since they are so "weak."

International market Phil

But shipping/insurance and an 'in the flesh' exchange are definitely valuable.

I don't think they justify the usual 1$ = £1 marketing trick though

And 2x 18Gb drives isn't much nowadays - you'd need to spend £50 to get a new drive in it to start with.

So looking at $275 for the empeg => £160 ?
Then add a bit for being local?

I've never seen an empeg on here go for £160 - they've always been in the £200 - £250 range hence my valuation.

I know what I meant about the weak dollar but it didn't come across properly...

I stand by my valuatuation :-) Besides, its worth 1p or £1M depending on who wants it

Hm, I would have valued them in between the two estimates.

empeg + accessories = $300+
tuner = $200?
bag = $50 each

International market, perhaps, but he's not a business. If he's selling to a UK-based person he'll easily get bewteen £200 and £250. To get that price from a US seller it'd be about $450 dollars which is silly money - but thats not us Brits fault is it? Hence if he were selling, a US person will need to pay more.

Hard disk - not too important and doesn't affect price unless its a silly high capacity. Drives are cheap and the upgrade is easy to do. I'd rather have a well looked after 36gb player with no hard drive issues/dry solder joints etc over a FUBAR'd 120gb player that'll need repair work.

Tuners - a kit from patrick was £110 + assembly. So £100 for a tune is fair enough.

A bag? Rare. Sealed/brand new? Very very rare. £50 easy. I'd guess that if that ebay auction had been posted here it'd have sold for more. Caseye got a bargain IMO.

Just my opinion Again, its worth whatever someone will offer for it, but theres a point at which its not worth selling as its worth more to keep it.

Hi stickpony No. It, erm, "fucking", went on eBay.

FWIW I offered £300 for the lot.

In the end eBay provided £26 for the bag, £68 for the tuner and had a £200 buy it now price for the empeg.

Still, you've got to gamble to win. C'est la vie

empeg went to the person who bought my car (that used to have the empeg in it), and i fitted it back into the car for him after I had upgraded the drive. And made more than the £300 you offered me

Well done

However a recent 25Gb Empeg on ebay : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230169251871
went for £153 (a spare eh Hussein?)

I am pleased you made more than the £300 I offered - but although it was clearly not 'top dollar', it was a damned fair price and my point was it was actually *more* than you'd have got if you'd stuck to your eBay prices. I also offered you a lot of flexibility in selling it as a package or individually and I even provided a 'backup offer' in case you couldn't get as much as you wanted for the individual items.

I also think it shows that I made a reasonable assessment at the 'going rate' on eBay and the like. Of course I was also willing to actually buy it at the price I mentioned...
(I take it Phil didn't actually offer you the £400 he suggested?)

Anyhow, I hope you introduced the new owner to the BBS...
