Apparently the P-38 can opener doesn't work so well on MRE's. So the military is shipping NiftyKutter's to the GI's.

Weird. MRE's are designed to be opened and eaten sans tools. Besides, any decent survival knife will do the job nicely. I had the displeasure of eating MRE's (Meals Refusing to Exit) post Katrina. Some of them were decent, quite a few were downright nasty.

I still miss using a P-38. Some of the can openers now don't work nearly as well as the P-38s from forever ago. I think I still have one laying around somewhere.

I had one for breakfast yesterday. No tools required.

The NiftyKutter would work better at opening the plastic wraps than the P-38, though. But it's not a requirement.

now there's nothing wrong with pot noodles. Chicken and mushroom is my favorite. I always find it needs more soy than you get in the sachet though.

Oh. There is nothing wrong with it. I'd happily eat a Chicken & Mushroom Pot Noodle. Its just calling it a luxury that I'm disturbed about smile

When I was a student living off 11p ASDA noodles, a pot noodle would be looked upon as a luxury. smile

I could never handle the breakfast ones. One thing I did find interesting, the ones made in different locations were quite different. One type of wheat "bread" was OK. The other type was nasty. Both required some doctoring, like jelly or peanut butter. Oh, and BBQ or Tabasco sauce makes almost anything more edible. I REALLY liked the ones with the old-fashioned candies though.... what were those? They had white paper with black and red writing wrapped around them.

Well, compared to the old British MRE packs it *is* luxury!
