Couldn't figure out how to obfuscate data on an in-house developed site well enough, I see. Had to outsource it to the master of data obfuscation: MySpace.

Is DCUO going to be any different from every other MMORPG? Doing the same quests with different decoration gets old to me really quickly.

It's hard to do, but not being able to play as the DC characters takes some fun out of it. Sure it would be fun to join up with Superman to battle Doomsday... or to beat the tar out of Batman, but not being able to be Superman or Batman or any other DC character drops the appeal.

More info on the game will be coming out around Comic-con, and there should be an article about it in the Edge magazine in the UK.

Basically this is what has been keeping me very busy at work lately. It's nice that it is going public finally, and I am really curious to see the reaction from people as more info does come out. The playable demo at Comic-con should be a great sneak peak.

...though the alternative is a mission where 12 Supermans and 14 Batmans team up with 9 Green Lanterns and 8 Wonder Women. That would be far worse, IMO.

Not that MMORPGs have any interest to me anyway...

Don't forget to throw in 1 Booster Gold! wink But that is exactly why it would be difficult to make the game where you can be those characters.

I did like the mention in this article that Jim Lee is thinking of the idea of tying in-game events to the events as they happen in the comics. I haven't followed the comics for almost 10 years, but that would be a fun twist to it. The only downside is your character would have no effect on the events in the comics. If that matters.

This does have my interest, but I'm sure when it comes down to it I won't pay a monthly fee to play a game I already purchased a license for. $50 in the store once + an additional $15/month. Not for me.

Hmm, funny thing is that the myspace URL is dead. Marketing did finally discover Facebook a while back, and the proper site also came into being a while back.

www.dcuniverseonline.com

Even though I've been off the project and at other companies, I'm hoping it does well. Playing in the beta was pretty entertaining, and overall the team did decently with the combat, which was the big unknown early in development. About the only aspect of the release that disappoints me is the divided servers between PC and PS3. I'll probably end up playing the PS3 version, as I prefer the console controller and avoiding the need to boot my Wintendo partition.
