Totally idle curiosity here. The attached image is a company "shared calendar" in Outlook. Its purpose is to track who's on vacation at any given time. It's called the "Gone Calendar". Everyone who takes a vacation adds it to this shared calendar.

I've removed the names for privacy reasons.

There is a purple shading on some of the days. One of the days is even shaded a darker purple than the rest of them. Why? I have no idea what this purple shading indicates. It's not related to any of my other calendars including my own personal calendar or any of the internet calendars I'm subscribed to. It doesn't appear to correspond with the specific vacation days of anyone on the Gone calendar, including myself. It doesn't appear to correspond with any known public holidays. It doesn't correspond with any internal company project schedules (that I know about anyway).

Any ideas?

Those days are "epic", which means they cast more damage than normal days.

It's a Prince calendar and those are the days rain is forecast.

Interesting guess. But I can't find anywhere in our calendar system that keeps track of that information. I don't think employee birthdays are entered anywhere into Outlook or Exchange.

Good question, Tony! This was all I was able to find. It could be how certain people are setting up the events on the calendar:

Quote:
When people use the Outlook Calendar to schedule meetings and other events, they can see your availability unless you have changed the permissions for your Calendar to prevent this. Normally, appointments, meetings, and events have a Show As setting of Busy. You can also create items with a Show As setting of Out of Office. Items set to Out of Office are regarded as similar to items set to Busy — someone should not expect you to be available at that time. Visually, the two types differ — items set to Out of Office appear with a purple color, items set to Busy are identified by a blue color theme. This difference in appearance helps emphasize why you are not available. For example, you might be able to move a conflicting Busy item, but you're probably not able or willing to change an Out of Office item such as your vacation.

Yep, that was it.

The purple shading corresponds to any day where one or more of the people have set their vacation days as OOF.

As you can see, most people don't bother setting that flag when adding items to the Gone calendar.

Thanks!

Interestingly, placing myself into the "Gone" calendar while setting the flag to OOF, does *not* mark me as OOF when people try to schedule me for meetings. Only doing that to my *own* calendar results in a true OOF flag.

That's an unfortunate domain name in the link whistle
I'm wondering whether 'm-sex-change-team' translates to simply 'f-team' wink

...eventually, yes. Please allow some time for healing before using the link, though.
