So we're in a situation where we have to share a room with the baby for several months. We'd like to be able to watch TV after she goes to bed without waking her.

preferences:
Two pairs of wireless headphones with a single base station.
RF or infrared is fine, but I'd rather stay away from 2.4 Ghz.
I'd like to keep it under $200 if possible.

If you don't know anything about this, but you could point me toward some good review sites, I can do my own research...I just don't know where to start.

The RS130 plus an additional HDR130 will cost you $250 from them. You can probably find it cheaper elsewhere. The tech specs page on the RS130 says that it operates at 926-928MHz.

A number of companies offer wireless headphones, some based on Bluetooth A2DP, others based on proprietary RF schemes. A handful of headphones have built-in support for multichannel audio, but some receivers support "Dolby Headphone" or equivalent, which synthesizes surround sound on any headphones.

As to supporting *two* sets of headphones, you could go with a y-adapter and two base stations. I'm sure somebody must offer a single base-station solution. If you can find one, that would be interesting, for sure.

You could also buy yee olde headphone extension cable, a y-adapter, and so forth. With two of you plugged in, that sounds like a recipe for disaster.

One way to keep things under budget is to use pre-existing wired headphones that you might own with some kind of Bluetooth A2DP adapter. Several companies offer them. Dunno if any of them are any good or not.

A2DP is inherently laggy. Unless they want to watch TV with out-of-sync audio, I'd avoid A2DP for this problem.

The Sennheiser headphones that the guys at Headroom recommend allow multiple headphones per transmitter. Not really hard to do, since most of the technologies (Bluetooth notably excepted) are going to be broadcast based.

Yeah..I'm considering the Sennheisers. I'm also considering just getting a 20ft. extension cable for $10 and being done with it.

How soundly does this baby sleep anyway? Won't the flickering of the screen wake her up?

Doesn't seem to bother her as we usually have some ambient light on anyway.

If the baby is less than six months old, it'll sleep right through the flickering. And even through the sound of the TV (if reasonably moderate). Well, ours did anyway.

After that you'll need to have it in it's own room, 'cause it'll wake up from the slightest noise by then.

She's just a little over 5 months, but noises are starting to bother. Flickering not so much as long as we wait for a few minutes after she's asleep to turn it on. She sleeps pretty soundly though...she's been sleeping through the night since 10 weeks.

That's excellent! Hopefully it'll stay that way. Ours slept through the night since 3 weeks, but in the last four months (he's nine months now) he started getting reflux problems, which cause him to wake up at night. Painful for him, but also for the parents after a while, I can assure you...

Thanks a million for that observation, I was just looking at buying bluetooth and now I won't - I can't recall any of the forums and reviews mentioning this.
Those of us that need hearing aids are looking closely at the use of bluetooth, the first bluetooth hearing aids are now on the market, but they are cumbersome, behind the ear ones - when they get to discreet in ear ones I'll get my money out. I can't wait to receive phone calls directly, not to mention sitting with no wires listening to my ipod.

They don't meet any of your requirements, really (aside from being wireless), but I've ordered a pair of Jaybird 200's. Mostly for the gym, though. I ordered the "universal MP3 adapter" for it, and I'm going to at least try attaching it to the home theater and seeing if the lag is acceptable.
