I have for sale two rio central's. they have been sitting around gathering dust for a while now but work perfectly.The have had little use one has had almost no use at all as it was for my mum and she never used it. One has the external network adapter. they come with original manuals and even the CD software. They both have 120GB drives and have original remotes

Runs Linux, Expandable, Hackable, etc?

I came to the party late, have a empeg & Tivo long after most people stopped using them...

Hackable yes, but hasn't been hacked nearly as much as the empeg has been hacked.

I'd love to see a straight UPNP hack for it. Right now, I can use it to serve up music only to my Rio Receivers, not to any other media player devices. I'm running a great program called Chorale that re-publishes the Central's music to UPNP, but it requires that I run another 100-percent uptime server to do it.

Thank's for the reply. It begins to make sense now.
I knew Sonic blue did the Rio Receivers, but always thought a PC was the server... I never knew it was streamed from a Rio Central.
Slightly worrying as I was in the home HiFi industry at that time.....
I totally missed the Rio Central and Receiver products at their launch.
I'm sure I remember a empeg fitted in a 'Smart Car' at one of the uk trade shows. My mate and I were 'into cars'. He was in the trunk looking at the 3 cylinder turbo charged 700cc engine under the floor, (No substitute for cubic Inches then.....) At least I was dreaming about the indash mp3 player.....


I currently have my mp3 on a Buffalo Linkstation NAS.
I wouldn't use the Central as a server but a NAS and home player.
The largest disc size quoted in centrals is only ever 120Gb, I guess at the limitation of the early Linux Kernels. Do you know if this has being hacked ?
Im going to need more storage........
Else do you know if a central can also 'see' files on an external usb HDD?

But I suppose more importantly.......

It could have been either. You could either serve from a PC or from a Rio Central.
