I published this recently:

http://vixyandtony.bandcamp.com/track/no-hurry-2012

To publish the song, I had to send Bandcamp the full-resolution WAV file of the final bounce of the mix. Bandcamp creates the MP3/FLAC/etc encoded files themselves.

The resulting MP3-320 that I downloaded from Bandcamp does not appear to have any embedded lyrics inside the file when I view it in a binary editor. However, when I play the file in Windows Media Player, I see lyrics. And they're correct, too, including the recent correction we made to the lyrics.

Does anyone know the source that Windows Media Player is using to gank the lyrics?

That's cool!

How is it that I don't see the lyrics in the MP3 file when I view it in a binary editor? Is there a metadata format that encodes the information into a non-readable form?

Ah, I just poked at it a bit, and in fact it does contain the ASCII data in visible form. I think what happened is that the JPEG album art looked like song data to my eye, so I scrolled past the tag too quickly when I was looking. It had the album art embedded first, then the USLT tag.

I almost asked if you put the paper in upside down, again were looking in the correct part of the file. smile

But thanks for posting a link to bandcamp. Never heard about it, before, but now I do. I have some exploring to do.

One of my favorite things about the Bandcamp site is the front page of testimonials has a quote from my good friend Marian Call, right next to Amanda Palmer. I occasionally play guitar for Marian when she's in the Pacific Northwest, and we cover her songs. (She's someone whose music you should explore, by the way. Recommended songs are "Got to Fly", "Temporal Dominoes", "Dear Mr Darcy", and "Good Morning Moon", among others.)

ROFL. I remember that post - an absolute classic, 10 years and two weeks ago. Thanks for reminding me of it.

I looked at Bandcamp a few months ago, just the once. I've stayed away because it can just suck you in, I think I could spend days and days searching through all the stuff there.

Wow. Have I really been here that long? Yikes. Seems like just a few short years ago.

The 'Registered' statistic kind of scares me.
