Unfortunately, I'm a big weirded out by bugs. I think it comes from when I was 7. My area is part of the region that gets those cicada broods emerging every 13 and 17 years. There was a REALLY bad one when I was little, and the sheer number of them really freaked me out, plus I couldn't walk anywhere without their molted shells crunching under my feet. That didn't sit well with me at a young age, and I've had a thing about bugs ever since.

You can imagine how thrilled I am that next month will be a big cicada return around here...

I've noticed a huge decrease in the bug population in my house after adopting my cats. If they find a bug, one likes to play with it and another will sit there watching until the bug gets slapped too close, then out flashes the paw, beats the bug into paste and he licks it off his paw. Disgusting, but efficient I guess.

Word apparently spread about the dangers of my house and I haven't had a bug show up indoors (that I am aware of) for a few years now.

Sadly, my cats seem to be no help in this area. They'll get interested in a bug now and then, but for the most part they're just lazy Even when they pay attention to one, they usually just bat it around for a while then get bored. Very rarely will one of the cats eat the bug they're playing with (I'd be happy if they ate them all).

In the county many people motivate their cats to eat mice by feeding them very little.

Our last cat did not need that motivation. About every day I would find a headless mouse on the back porch in the same place. He was definitely proud of his kills.

One day a found a dead weasel in the back yard. I’ve never seen a wild one in my life. Wish he wouldn’t have wacked that one.

Heh, if I'm not too grossed out by them, I'll take a similar photo of a cicada when they're here next month. They get almost that long, so perhaps it won't match YOUR bug for size, but they're massive in volume, and will make up for it in numbers: one report says that some areas will see a Billion of these little bastards per mile...

Hahaha! I knew this was a common thread, but I'd completely forgotten that this specific bug had been IDed before. D'oh!

The news keeps saying cicadas are harmless except to trees. Well I remember the last time around they killed a lot of my longer stemmed garden plants. Being 17 years old you’d think they would know a tomato plant from a tree.

Also on a motorcycle they are way more than a nuisance.
