I installed my tumer module throught the hole in my sled in my 97 Jetta. The first few days it worked great! Reception was fantastic. Then one morning I couldn't get any of my stations to come in well. The signal strength meter was at three to four bars but the reception was full of static and faded in and out. I snugged up the antenna connector with no luck.

Finaly yesterday I pulled the tuner halfway out and snugged the connectors, although they were in tight and moved it over directly under the sled where it was when I installed it first.

Now it works perfectly.

Any thoughts as to why this would happen?

I doubt it's a tuner connection problem (ie, wires from tuner to main unit) as if any of the essential wires are gone:

- Data TX/RX: won't find tuner module
- Signal strength: won't get any signal strength indicated
- Signal: won't hear anything at all

Do you have a "bee sting" antenna? If so, you really need an antenna power adaptor, which you need if you fit any aftermarket stereo to an audi/vw. This supplies power to the antenna amp in the base of the bee sting; without this, the radio sounds awful in my new beetle.

No I have the cheepie hood mounted antenna.

My reception is fine now that I re-positioned the tuner module.

I had reception trouble, but it turned out to be an antenna connection issue. I have a 2000 Chevy Tahoe, and the connector is neither Motorolla nor Euro ISO. I ended up using a piece of foil, and tape for now. Anybody know where I can get an actual adaptor for this?

The Chevy factory connector is the opposite of the european iso, but not quite the Motorolla that the adapter would work with.

I have a Chevy S-10 pickup with the same kind of antenna lead. I just picked up an adapter at a local car stereo shop. It's apparently a common item.

Any place that stocks autoleads parts will have them (eg, cambridge car audio). They're essential for any aftermarket install in a VW/Audi, so they're pretty common.

I think I saw them on sale in halfords - on the racks of blister packs. You're looking for a 3"-ish silver cylinder with an antenna socket on one end, and two flying leads (one antenna plug, one blue wire) on the other end.
