i have 2 remotes in my car and it is annoying. so I want to capture the code from my pioneer remote ( using my philips pronto) and input this code into the empeg to be used to mark files for deletion. how would I got about doing this?

I'm not sure exactly what you want to do, but the IR commands are handled first in the kernel, in arch/arm/special/empeg_input.c .. in there, you can translate them to mean anything you want, before they are passed to userland (the player).

What you need is a specially-modified kernel by Frank Van Gestel called "IR_TRANS". Do a search on the BBS for information on how to use it to both capture the codes as well as use these codes on the empeg.

on http://fvgestel.dyndns.org/empeg/ I found the ir hack only goes to kernel 1.03 . I just installed 2.0 so basically Im up a creek right?

you can just reinstall 1.03 until that hack get updated
