Scrolling track names and "plays"

Is there a way to disable the scrolling track names in 2.0 Beta? I have a lot of tracks that don't fit on the entire screen and having them scroll back and forth (after I watched them be static for so long) is kinda irratating.
My other whiney wonder is can I disable the "Plays: XYZ" feature on the track info as well?
Many thanks ...

I like the scrolling but if I got to pick I would rather have it loop around instead of going back and forth

I thought so, too, but then I concluded this is much easier to read, particularly if the line is only a bit longer than display.

probably but this looks like it's twitching
either way I like it better than just having the line cut off
now I had to fix a bunch for song titles that were cut off and I never knew because the were too long to fit on the display

I'm also partial to the 1.x version of Info:Track. I don't like the scrolling of long song names or album names, and I don't really care to see how many times this song has been played. I wouldn't mind if it didn't take up good real estate there, but now the album/year has to share space with the play count, and that leads to more scrolling.
Would it be possible to disable scrolling on this info mode if we so choose?

I agree with some of the other posters here: the scrolling is annoying! I would prefer to see it scroll a couple times right when you first switch to the track, then stop.
Also, why is "Plays" on the main info screen? Why would anyone want to view this? It strikes me as largely useless information that wastes valueable space.

I like having # of plays on the screen. What else would you like to put there?
I like the info scrolling too, maybe theres a way to make it optional.

Agreed. I like the scrolling track names and play count, too. Maybe 'optional' is the way to go.

I'll chime in here and say that "plays" is good for the track details screen, but not the track info screen. As for scrolling, I also don't like the "scroll left then scroll right" approach, a wrap-around scroll would be much better. And it should just loop around two or three times at the beginning like others have said. Then again, I don't use the track info screen too much in normal use, so it's not a biggie.

Yup. I agree.
I like the loop-a-couple-times-and-stop approach too. The twitching is just annoying.

What else would I like to put there??? How about more room for the ablum title so it doesn't have to scroll!
Can someone tell me what the rationale behind displaying "Plays" is? It strikes me as mostly housekeeping information that the player uses to better radomize stuff. It's about as useful as diaplaying 192Kbps. i.e. Information I might want to occationally see, but not everytime I play a track.
Also, is there a way to clear the the # plays database? If I have a song that I play alot, it might be embarassing if someone riding in my car sees that I've played it 100's of times. This may sound wierd, but it makes me feel somewhat nuerotic watching that plays counter rise. I don't really like the idea of something watching everything I do and then advertising it.
I think both the plays counter and the automatic scroll should be options under the "Settings" menu that the user can control, just like the time elapsed/time remaining options line.
Also, does anyone else think the idea of having a "Most frequently played / Most recently played" option under "Random" would be a good idea? That would allow you to have a nice random sampling of everything you're enjoying currently. Personally, I'd use that form of randomizing far more often than the "Least frequently played" that's currently offered.

Ok maybe the #plays counter should be optional after all.

What, too many Britneys ?
I think they are kept with other transient data on /dev/hda3. There is a recipe for 'nuking' them all, but it also takes EQ settings etc. Roger has half-promised structure of the data there, so that it can be backed up / restored / erased separatly.
I think both the plays counter and the automatic scroll should be options under the "Settings" menu that the user can control, just like the time elapsed/time remaining options line.
OK, let it be configurable, but I feel kind of bad because many users (myself included) were clamoring for scrolling and nobody said "don't bother" then, while now it might sound as waste of effort. I like scrolling and use Track info screen a lot.
But, an idea: would it be possible to have templates for some or all info screens, where the user could choose from a dozen or so elements and place them (with attributes such as font size, style of scrolling etc) on customized screen? That would also apply to Details screen (where I would like to see all details).
Also, does anyone else think the idea of having a "Most frequently played / Most recently played" option under "Random" would be a good idea? I agree. But again, an idea: how about a shufle mode where the weighting function and amount of randomization would be user specified (e.g. 'maximize (number_of_times_played - 2 * number_of_times_skiped)' or something like that)?
Anyway, let guys@empeg first iron our stability problems of new beta! Dragi "Bonzi" Raos

I suggested this exact thing here but nobody was interested. I even tried to revive the thread without success.
Maybe people will think it's needed more now that we have 2.0 than when I suggested it. Marcus (beaker)

I personally like the idea, but it's also one that's much more difficult to program than just tweaking the existing info modes. There are a bunch of things I'd like to see them get to first.
We should have a "voting system" for new features on the wish list. Maybe on riocar.org? To give the developers a read on what the users really want...

Oh, I agree. It wouldn't be a five minute job to code this at all. It just seemed like a good idea to me to be able to create your own info screens within Emplode (or 3rd party app) showing exactly the info you want, where you want and how you want (eg scrolling, static, size etc.) and then 'uploading' them to your Empeg. I was surprised at the time that no-one else had any thoughts either for or against the idea. Marcus (beaker)

I'll take twitching over getting cut off but if I got to pick I would rather have it loop
there is probably no way they could do it that would make everyone happy except making it so we can pick what we want to be displayed but I am guessing that must be hard to do or they would have made it that way in the first place

Perhaps that's why this thread has been ignored by anyone familiar enough with the software to say one way or the other
I thought about how cool it would be to have the ability to do custom info screens, but I figured that would be a waste of manpower from the guys at empeg. I don't think that it would be hard to include an optional "1.03" style info:track display, but then..I wouldn't be one to know how hard that is to implement.
Can any of the empeg people comment? - Chris

Should we assume, now that beta 7 is out, that we won't see this issue addressed in the 2.0 software?
