Installed the 2.0b3 update, marked a file for attention. File wouldn't play back properly after that point: lots of static, very nerve-wracking. Thought it might be my car's sound system, switched to another track, music was fine. Hooked up the empeg -- er, sorry, Rio Car, whatever -- at home, played the marked track, same static, other tracks fine. Removed the track from the unit, ripped it again and uploaded it to the unit, plays fine (occasional skipping since 2.0b3 install notwithstanding). Played this track countless times before the 2.0b3 upgrade, never had a problem.

This is a known bug in version 2.0b3. The file has not been corrupted, it simply had a normalization parameter applied to its metadata. The normalization code isn't finished, hence the static.

If you downgrade to 1.03, the problem will go away. The bug will be fixed in the next release of the software.

When this is fixed in the next release will it fix the files that already have the bad normalization applied?

I assume so. If not, there are ways to manually repair it at the shell prompt.

The normalisation doesn't affect the file on disk, it's a transform applied to the decoded output. With the normalisation disabled, the audio will be fine.

HEy Milo, awesome site btw!

Except you can only see it with broadband connection. I cant complain because of the 'sorry, BYCKMA' page.
I would like to see something over dial up, rather than be told that cause I either cant get broadband or cant afford it, I cant enjoy part of his site. (still don't know what it is)

I know what you are saying, some of us have no high speed options available to us at all. I was still able to view the site somehow though.

I got the site to work with IE's dutiful caching. Was it worth my time? Not over the 56k connection.

At work I've got a T1 at my disposal. How did that work out? The page failed to load on IE5 for Macintosh. I didn't try it on my Win2K desktop running IE6.

For a personal site that I suppose was done for fun, there's just a bit too much negativity. I don't care if it's a disclaimer and if it's not a company site. Do a small speed check or pop up an alert before trying to load everything within a set time frame.

But all this can be explained easily. Milo works for VERANT. I suppose some of the aggression and bad temperament of their useless gaming staff and management has rubbed off onto their model artists. Maybe because so many of their employees have seen that people can make more money playing the game than some of them make "making" and running the game.

(Disclaimer - I don't play any multiplayer online games, including EverQuest (unfortunately have plenty of friends who do - Dark Ages of Camelot is the current game for the masses))

You didn't miss too much. Sure, his site shows some programming and design skills, but it misses the one thing that makes a page interesting: Content.
If it actually contains more information than just the collection of external links and an about "page", it is well hidden.

I am just trying to be honest. I'm far from perfect myself, let alone my web site. But Milo's website looks nice, and sure shows he knows something about programming on/for the web. Still the site has no content, and doesn't even work all too well under those browsers he says it is optimized for (IE5.5 in my case). It worked when I last checked, but now it doesn't work anymore.
If he filled it with a little content (like some info about him), it would be a very nice site, but the way it is now, you don't miss much when you don't visit it.
Hey, this might be considered putting down Milo's web site, but I am not trying to put down Milo or his art/programming skills.

Not the site. Just a bit of the attitude. It's cool if it's fun-oriented, but it just seemed like elitest negativity to me. I quite liked the begining of the page and the blackboard concept.

As far as his employer goes... That really should have no reflection on him, I just decided to gripe a bit. Verant is infamous for their ill-treatment of paying customers. Something that could come back to haunt them for future games. They're like the anti-empeg. :)

Let's hope that when this mp3 gig goes hardcore into the mainstream, empeg car people don't get dropped like bad news.
(Of course I don't expect that happening - the last bit only :)
