My Sony stalk remote sometimes does not respond to volume and track up commands through the radio tuner. Anyone else have this problem?

What version of the software are you using? If using 1.03, then that's probably the reason. They altered the sensitivity values in 2.0b3 if I recall.

2.0b6 should be out sometime soon, that one will probably have even more refined values.

I did install today a Sony stalk converter and I have the same problem! I did also change from left to right configuration, but there is no changes. This means with left the (+) and with right the (-) is not working.

Now I am not sure if there is a problem with the stalk.

I haven't a Sony stalk. I use my original Renault with a Sony converter.

Try measuring actual resistance (on connector) when you press buttons you have trouble with and comparing them with table on www.riocar.org.

Not that I know of. The tables are not in external file, and are (IIRC) a part of player SW, not kernel, so, save for some very elaborate kernel manipulation of /dev/ttyS0 data stream, we can do nothing, I am affraid. On the HW side, I don't know whether Sony stalk yields to resistor bank surgery. Has anyone tried to open it?

Perhaps it's just contact problem. If contacts are corroded or dirty they will add their (variable) resistance to that of 'regular' resistor and possibly confuse ADC that samples them.

Update: I didn't notice you talk about converter. How does it work?

Where did you get the Renault - Sony converter? I'm from Belgium (Europe) and waiting for my Renault to arrive. I would like to use the standard 'Stalk' from Renault.

My car is not so old (1 Year) that the contact can already be corroded. This is my opinion. But who knows! Yes I use a converter (PC9-112), that I can use my original Renault Stalk. Everything is working only the Volume + is working sometimes and sometimes not. So I changed in Emplode from Right to left use and it was the same then with the Volume -. But only sometimes....:-(
