I've been kicking around the idea of looking at the kernel
and player next week to add .mod(etc) file playing
support. They are self contained and there seems to
be several linux projects out there that play them, though
all seems to be very Endian based so I might be going
from scratch here.

Any hints on what it would take to get the software happening? I assume that I'd have to move files via serial
as emplode won't add them ;) Or maybe I could be lazy
and post this to wish list? hehe

Once I have .mods, it shouldn't be too difficult to get
s3ms,fars,its,xms, etc,etc working. Wonder if theres
any interest besides myself.

Looks like tigloo did some work on this, refer to this thread for more info. Not sure how far he got, but I think MODs and other tracker formats would be kinda neat to have.

I seem to recall that a mod player does exist for the unit. You probably have to drop to a shell and execute commands from there, i.e., there's no integration with the existing player software.

Thanks guys. time to whip out the ole' compiler and get
cracking!

In the "days of yore" we used to hand build Crays. I used
to get the left over parts and build wicked mod trackers and
hi-end amps (hehe) and drag them to demo comps in Europe
from Assembly, Crayfish's parties, etc. They were always
a huge hit. I still love a great mod file.

Back in the day I had disks and disks of tracked files. And disks and disks of instrument sound bytes to use with the trackers. Now I have none. But of course I also don't have the Amiga I used all that stuff on.

Are you going to make a SID emulator next? Then we can play back literally hundreds of tunes from the C64. :)

There is already a SID player for the Empeg.

What I'd love to see is *integrated* MOD and SID support from the player.

Why bother? There are PILES of good sid->mp3 programs that used to sit around on sites. ;)

Plus I love the mp3 remixs of some of the classics.
