I just paid a total of $900US for my 40GB (added a 30GB fujitsu drive)... I bought it Oct 30, 2001!... I can't believe they could lower it this MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess I'm at loss, I guess they won't be doing anything for us poor losers.

I believe the last price cut (which was also very significant) was before that date, so you still got a very discounted player. That was also way after the EOL announcement, at which point most people realised (and discussed here) that purchasing was a gamble between the product selling out, or the price dropping further.

SB do have a price guarantee, but it is only for 30 days (which is not uncommon).

Sorry you feel you lost out, but all any purchaser can do is decide how much something is worth to them at that point in time. I must admit I was a little taken aback by this reduction, but clearly it is a final push to move the remaining stock off the shelves.

Don't get me wrong Rob, the Empeg Mk2a rocks! I don't regret buying it! But everyone hates when they see a price drop like this :)

I'm actually thinking of buying another one :)

Well this move will definitely exhaust the stock... I wonder what the resale value will settle on once the product is no longer available new... Personally if I could get $700 or so for my MkII I think I'd do it. I did want to have two units in case one goes down, but I don't think that's a luxury I can afford anymore.

The unique thing about the Empeg is that it's still extremely advanced technology. Even if it were released last week it would look like an amazing product. My hope is that a bunch of people start to find out about it and throw big money around to try to snap one up in good condition. I think there are a some examples of products that have done this (the region-hackable Apex DVD players are one I can think of offhand) where they held their value (and sometimes increased sharply) after being EOL'ed. Maybe there is hope for those of us who purchased at (what is now) a very high price.

Well, once the current orders ship I'll have 4 empegs. If the price goes up, my brother will feel even better for me having scooped him up one.

Bruno

And of course I'd have an easier time getting some additional money from him and the friend the other one is for. :) (the third is mine, all mine)

I ordered a 10GB about the same time, and you know, I got two months use out of it, and so I don't really mind...But my father decided he wanted one now, and he is picking up a 30GB one...Which he is going to hand over to me in trade for my 10GB one .
