oh happy day! I heard about the price drop the day that it happened, so i whipped out the ol' credit card and ordered a new 10Gb RioCar. My first pleasant surprise was that it arrived 2 days ago, way ahead of schedule, and my second wonderful surprise was to find that I had paid $199 for 20Gb !! That's fine by me. (This same thing also happened to my roommate) Such lucky guys we are.

hmmm...i can't remember exactly what time i ordered it, but i recieved my 'order confirmation' email on 23/12/01 at 02:30 pm. does that help? oh and btw, i ordered it from the east coast of the US.

So did you what capacity does emplode actually report?

There were a group (I forget now how many) of 12G players that were labeled, listed and sold as 10G units. It wouldn't be double, but emplode would be reporting 11G+ rather than the typical 9G+ you would see with a 10G drive.

These units were part of the final production in the queue as empeg was acquired last year(ish). These units are ones that probably showed up in empeg boxes with Rio players inside... Just curious if anyone else out there noticed that they got a bit more than they'd ordered... ... beyond the incredible product that they are.

the empeg is reporting 18+ Gb, so basically a 20 Gb drive.
