First, does anyone know if the eStore ships orders on Saturday? Hey, cut me some slack, I'm chomping at the bit over here :)

Also, just a formal introduction since I'll hopefully be haunting these boards quite a bit if I get my Empeg. This seems like a really neat community to be a part of, and is one of the reasons that I wanted an Empeg player to begin with (I'm a gadget freak). I'll be seeing ya around. :)

Well, FedEx delivers on Saturday around here, but I don't think anything will actually ship on Saturday. Welcome, and I'm crossing my fingers for you.

Welcome!

Good luck getting a player. You might want to go into that CarToys location you mentioned in the other thread and putting of their in-stock players on lay-away for a week or so. Just in case.

PS: Cool profile pic. What's its origin?

Hi,

I read in another thread that you will have your empeg installed by car toys. Make sure they don't let the docking cradle hang down out of the dash by the wires. You might want to watch during the install to make sure they do it right. :-) I installed my headunit myself while the tech was mucking around with the amp. That way I knew that I had it wired correctly without them cutting off unneeded wires- like the serial cable! good luck

Eek. I'll try to read up before I go to have it installed - I'm not familiar with car audio installation at all, unfortunately. I better learn what it is they're not supposed to do before they do it. :)

Time to go practice my Car Nazi techniques...

They are not supposed to cut off any wires or connectors on the back of the sled. That seems to be the number one offense of bad installers.

Otherwise, all the common pitfalls of installation should be available here.

Dont worry too much, its just that i've read some horror stories of installers cutting off any wires they didnt know what to do with - serial, mic input- and some will let the metal cage hang down by the wires, which could pull out wires from the docking connector. There are a lot of install resources on this site: http://www.installdr.com

I'm hoping these guys know what they're doing, since they're authorized resellers. The guy even said "Rios take 3 hours to install, and our guys are fast", while almost all of their other head installations take ~1 hour or less.

I'm a total novice when it comes to car audio and I installed an Empeg and amp in my friends T-Bird in about an hour and a half. Granted the wires were already run, but we were slow and screwed a couple things up.

This is normal. The Rio Car is harder because it needs an amplifier, so you have to factor in the amplifier installation time as well.

Finally booked my car in at Cambridge Car Audio to have my empeg fitted. They're quoting around 2 hours, and it's quite a simple installation.

They're just putting a 2-channel amp under the passenger seat and connecting it to the stock door speakers.

Later in the year, once I can afford it, I'll get a sub, replace the door speakers, and upgrade to a Kicker 4-channel amp so I can drive the rears as well.

No rears, no sub -- not sure how I'll cope. Still, it'll be better than listening to Cambridge radio stations.

I got the empeg in in about an hour but i had the amp already sitting there. most of the time was making around the glovebox for the additional wires.

Welcome... and yes it is a neat community. I've never known so much posting going on as in the past few days. I'm having trouble getting on with anything else - too many posts to read.

My install took an hour. Admittedly, I slaved it to my headunit, so no amp install was required. Most of the time was spent taking a dremmel to the edges of the stereo deck area so that the empeg would fit properly. But, everything looks great.

Yeah, finally got around to learning to drive. The car's nothing special, just a 94 Primera.

The Blaupunkt radio in it is useless, though. There's no track skip, there's no way to find music easily, and someone's been filling it with tracks containing adverts and talking .
