this became really annoying on our new years party:
when adding or inserting tracks to the current playlist in emplode, the music stops for about half a second almost every time.

In versions later than 2.0, there is not usually supposed to be a pause when doing any operations like shuffling or inserting. The only time this should happen is when the cache is severely stressed.

However, in 2.0b7 I agree that I have heard an unusual number of pauses when inserting, order-tweaking, or shuffling/unshuffling. I'm going to make sure this one is on the internal bug list.

Let me clarify something here.

I just realized you're doing it with emplode and not the player. My complaint is when doing it from the player. I don't know whether it's supposed to pause when doing it from emplode, but I know it's not supposed to pause when doing it from the player.

I'm hoping they're the same bug.

I never had pauses when I inserted or appended directly at the player - this only happened in emplode, and it doesn't matter whether the player is connected via Ethernet or USB.

These pauses are long enough to make everyone stop dancing, so this really was a showstopper...

Yeah, I've been running into this too while DJ'ing for my comedy shows...

Nearly every time I insert or shuffle the player, I get a brief (perhaps 1/4--1/2 second) pause.

this still happens in beta11 !
even though it's getting better: probability now, say, 15%...before it was at 90 or so...

When I got beta 11, I stressed the cache very hard by doing lots of shuffles and inserts and tweaks. I found it very difficult to make the player skip at all when doing any of these things. When it did skip, it was only in pathological situations, and only for the tiniest moment.

Then again, I have less than 2000 songs on my player at this time. Maybe that's a factor?

I can easily generate a pause when doing various search/shuffles with my setup. I have 5950 songs though. It's not something I mind terribly though.
