Okay, this is my second unit. The first one would freeze at boot. This one works fine. It plays everything and never crashes. The only problem with it is I can't get the remote to work consistently. It will work one day and not the next. It has never worked in the car and it only works sometimes when plugged into the AC Adapter. Now I can't get it to work at all. Do I need a new remote or Empeg? Can I test it with a Kenwood home theater receiver remote? Thanks in advance.

It is very likely to be the remote. Try putting a new battery in it. Also, sometimes the simple act of removing and re-inserting the battery can fix up dodgy contacts and make it work again.

Tony, you're a genius. Took out the battery, put it back in, problem solved. Is there any way to make the contacts stick out more so I don't have this problem in the future (which I most definitely will)? Thanks.

I've had terrible luck with my remotes...I couldn't get them to work reliably. I purchased an extra remote, which I also couldn't get to work very well out of the box. I haven't tried replacing the batteries in either, but I never used a remote extensively so I don't know why the batteries would be dead. I did try to take the battery out and put it back in, several times in both remotes..didn't really help.

Glad I could help. I don't know about how to make the contacts more reliable, but I just added this as a FAQ entry.

If you look at the actual tray the battery sits in, it's larger than the battery itself. Therefore, the battery tends to move a bit and not make a proper contact. I've noticed if you push in on the tray (making sure it's as in as it goes), this helps.
